A lot of misc comments & questions:
Toe: You hit the nail on the head... I've found the reflections off the back wall from wearing the 3D glasses to be noticeable/distracting as well. All the more for me since my wall color is pretty light. It has me thinking about whether putting up some sort of acoustic wall panels in the rear would help. Maybe the fabric might cut down some light as well as improving my room's acoustics.
Gamma/Zombie10k: I'm having a similar experience as Zombie10k regarding not yet finding the right balance between black level and losing shadow detail, and am looking forward to explorations with gamma. It was an interesting experiment last night to set the HDMI mode from Standard to Enhanced -- I saw a lot more shadow detail, but at the expense of the picture getting more washed out. I tried using Enhanced with bringing down other settings (aperature, gamma mode, etc) to reduce the washed-out effect without losing the detail, but so far haven't found the right mix that keeps the right balance of blacks, brightness, and detail. I'm also trying to do this with the "Normal" lamp mode rather than "High", so that as the bulb dims I can later shift to "High" mode to restore a similar brightness level.
IMAX 3D BD's: Is everyone shelling out $40/ea for Under the Sea 3D & Space Station 3D or is there somewhere to find a decent discount on these? Gotta admit I'm a bit taken back by the price of discs & the cost to build a collection, at this point a BD is getting close to the cost of an X360 game which gives 10 - 40x more usage time! Makes me more selective with my BD library dollars than I'd otherwise like to be..
For those who will also be building their library, in particular their 3D library, Legend of the Guardians was an excellent experience for me. Top notch visuals that makes the RS40 shine, 3D done right (stronger than in the theater but not gimmicky) and good sound.
Sony S570 BD Player: For those who have this, is there some setting or button I need to be using to preserve the current viewing location? If I pause for a while in the middle of a movie and the unit shuts itself off, or I otherwise power it down or even return to the main Home menu, trying to play the movie again puts me at the very start (!?).
My media room is all-new/recently completed and the first time I've had such a room with great equipment across the board. Still smiling at the sound from watching the JJ Abrams Star Trek BD last night. As the ships go to warp (around the 40.5 minute mark I think) it's like a hammer to the chest (in a loving way
). Dual ED A5-450's (18" in giant 3'x2' enclosures) will do that I guess
