which made me wonder wether if this game is exception or most of the current games will have the same picture!!
p.s. I had the projector 3D setting to be Side-by-Side and connected directly to the xbox,,,
Everyones tolerance for ghosting will be different. Black Ops was the first 3d game I played on my 40 as well and my feelings were very similar to yours back then. Once I got over the initial honeymoon type phase being my first 3d gaming experience and played a few other 3d games, I started noticing the ghosting more and more. I then saw a friend of mines $500 DLP that showed literally NO ghosting game after game and movie after movie.......at this point my perspective on the ghosting became worse on my 40 and it made me realize that the amount of ghosting I was seeing was impacting the experience (negatively) even more than I thought.

Not saying you will have the same experience as me and I hope you dont, but ghosting tolerance will be different depending on the individual and can even change as you get more experience with 3d which is what has happened to me (might be best NOT to view a DLP if you want to assure your happiness in this area!). Dont get me wrong as I still enjoy watching 3d on the 40, but the ghosting is more than I would like, especially with 120hz material such as gaming.

Considering the strides Sony has apparently made in this area with their 2nd gen 30, I am very hopeful JVC will pull something similar with this years models. Not that I expect it to be at DLP level, but a solid improvement would certainly help!

Having said all that, try Avatar the game for some awesome 3d, but with some bad ghosting that gets worse as you increase the depth slider. Putting the depth slider at max, the ghosting is horrible IMO. You can do this on a DLP and get NO ghosting............very frustrating!

Not many options at the moment as far as DLP and I am assuming the Sharp 17000 would be the best bet. Should be more options announced at Cedia.

Thank you so much for your feedback, The good thing is that I don't have DLP projector to compare I watched seven 3D movies (including avatar) on my projector and I was very pleased with it. As you said earlier, this is very subjective and depend in your experience, for me my only reference is Sony 3D TV (on Sony Store) and the local theater and I can say confidently that the projector performance match (if not top) those

Now for gaming, I guess I was surprised because I thought you can't play games with this projector, so far it's not a show stopper . Although I'm not planning to play 3D games very often, I'm happy that I have the option with the big games such as Gear of War 3 and Uncharted 3 later this year. And thanks for the recommendation, I'll check Avatar, how is the game itself beside the 3D effects?

The game was OK. Nothing great, but combined with the great 3d you would enjoy it I bet. Check it out at some point

Please let us know how you make out. I am curious if you'll get one of the 7 series lamps. Not that it means much, there is no proof yet that the 7 series are any better than the 5.

I can't wait to hear what lamp is being used in the upcoming 2012 models. I hope they are smart and switch to a better manufacturer.

I have a lamp in the series 7 for 3 months and for the moment the light is identical to the 5 series may be a small color difference, it has 300hrs and nothing to report at this time!
I'll recalibrate and see how many lumens have been lost since the last made at 200hrs.

Of course a friend with a 32-bit laptop would probably be the easiest way, but if you have to move the projector it may be worth looking into it.

Thanks. I will try to borrow first, otherwise, it is good to know to try with virtual OS.

I have 3 pair 3d glasses xpand 103 and trying to add more. It is getting cheaper. Is xpand releasing new version of glasses?

Other than JVC and xpand, do you know if there is any other brand that works with JVC. xpand is little pinching at the nose.

I've been playing a lot of Killzone 3 on my RS40. This is a title that's kind of notorious for crosstalk. Although there are certainly some moments where the ghosting is really bad, the majority of the game looks great on the projector. If you can live with the occasional ghosting artifact, I think that the positives of 3D gaming on this projector largely outweigh the negatives.

That [almost certainly] wouldn't work. The firmware upgrade app JVC provides runs just fine on x64 or x32. The problem is the USB driver. On 64 bit Windows, the drivers must also be 64 bit, and JVC doesn't provide 64 bit drivers along with their application. So you'll run into the error as soon as you connect your projector via USB for the first time. There's no way to run a driver in XP mode other than virtualizing the entire OS.

I found following two types of glasses..

http://www.jr.com/brand/xpand-usa/

http://www.amazon.com/Xpand-X102-3D-...3602371&sr=1-2

What is the difference between them to use for JVC?

I am assuming that first link is pointing to xpand 103. I would like to order them and just want to confirm, I am not missing any better glasses available in the market.

Hi Josh,
happy to read your comment since I was reading your blog TODAY (issued on May) and I was wondering what is your impressions of 3D in movies and games 3 months from your first impression

I sold my 40 thinking I was buying the new sony 30 but just found out it will not do vertical stretch for those of us with a anamorphic lens. I dont know if I can wait for the new JVC'S. I might have to buy another 40 to hold me over.

The second (amazon) link is for the X102. I don't think they work with the JVC projectors.

As for the X103, they seem to be the cheaper option. How well they will work depends on your screen. The polarization on the X103 is "wrong" by 90 degrees, which might end up making the picture very dark. Whether or not that will happen depends on if your screen retains the polarization of the light coming from the projector. Some screens do, some don't.

Did your RS40 ghost a lot with 3d blu rays?

You are correct, the Xpand x102s are DLP-Link glasses for use with DLP based PJs and RPTVs.

Thanks. I am already using xpand 103 with Dalite high power screen without out problem. I thought to make sure I am not missing any new version glasses. These pinch little at nose. Other than that no complaint.

I just ordered them. For almost the price I paid to buy single pair couple of months back, now able to get two of them.

My RS40 doesn't ghost much at all if when the lamp is new. It's not an issue. When the lamp dims, it can get very bad. The more the lamp ages, the worse it gets.

I'm at 295 and its still going strong. Hopefully it doesn't start to ghost bad. It has a bad ghosting problem on games and that's why I'm getting a Optoma GT750 or get a VIP 3D Gamer for my GT720. I doubt if I upgrade to a 1080p 3D projector because I get almost no ghosting on 3D blu rays. I'm getting the Lumagen mini3 to enhance my RS40, so I should be fine for a couple of years, hopefully.

Hopefully JVC will get back on track and start shipping in November. This year was painful.

I would guess it was getting there operation open in China that lead to production delays, as before these 3D models came out JVC projectors where made in the good old USA last year. Inventory with JVC's are no longer an issue so things look promising.......

Hi all, I'm wondering how you clean your lens, is there special way or you just wipe it with a towel or something

The nice thing about these JVCs is the automatic lens cover which makes dust buildup and cleaning far less frequent. Try a simple can of compressed air first (remember, always keep it upright and test spray before pointing at your lens, otherwise liquid may come out and damage your lens). If it still looks dirty, a basic lens cleaning kit from your local camera store should be fine. Just follow the instructions.

Do all of this, of course, with the projector powered off and significantly cooled down. Also, I doubt you will notice a difference unless your lens is really dirty.
