Guys, do I have the latest firmware version for my X3:

main: 201010291

switcher: 2010.10.19.1

Could someone give me advice on motion management. I try the various settings and have a problem seeing much difference. Also, I have never seen the so-called "soap opera" effect. Does the motion control only work when showing film? Golf balls, football passes, baseballs don't seem to change in motion when I set to various stages. Perhaps I am not executing the effect properly.

CMD Mode 3 is the one that is recommended to use. You will notice more SOAP OPERA effect if watching a movie in 24p with it enabled, then if watching Sports @ 30(60hz), but the difference is still there. You should notice a slight smoothing effect in either case.
CMD Mode 1 and 2 are for 60hz only and will produce lots of flicker if you try and use it when you are sending a 24hz signal.

BTW, welcome back to the JVC club, the JVC was also my first sharp 3-chipper and it is very nice having a 3-chip projector that is this sharp. It is almost like having a DLP with a slightly flatter image that is about as sharp. I can still tell on certain scenes DLP can pop more even over a very sharp LCOS, but just as many other scenes favor LCOS (not just dark scenes either).

I bet if you watch the right movie, you will notice the JVC is actually quite a bit more contrasty in dark scenes than the Marantz even though the blacks might not go a lot darker, but I know the Marantz was one of the best DLP's at this as well, so...

This is the sharpest 3 chip projector I've ever owned and I'd even go out on a limb as say its sharper at normal seating distances compared to .65" DLPs. I think that has a lot to do with my particular unit and its unusually nice convergence/lens. I'm very impressed. I also purchased an emitter and 3 pairs of Xpand 3D glasses. The 3D is a nice add on and is very well implemented. Though, I've only owned one other 3D projector (Mitsubishi HC7800D) which wasn't the greatest at 3D even though it was a DLP. There was flickering and ghosting. The JVC is on par I'd say. Black levels seem to be great and about equal to my Planar PD8150. Though on a totally black screen the JVC goes a tad deeper.

what happened to your tagline? cool.gif
Could always change tagline to:

You buy an Epson when you want to be somebody, you buy a JVC when you are somebody.

Above stolen from RovingTraveler's tagline about buy ferrari, buy lamborghini...
Actually you buy a Lamborghini when you want to get car-jacked...

(and no I would never really put that in my signature)

I'd be quite the hypocrite if I still had that in my signature. I still do favor my Planar for many reasons and will continue to use it for certain material. Darker material for sure on the JVC. For instance I was checking out a few scenes from the last few Harry Potter movies last night. These are some of the darkest movies ever filmed. They looked fantastic with the JVC.

With that being said, while this JVC is great, I still think higher end DLPS like my Planar are much more well rounded. But you have to spend the big bucks if you want that kind of performance. JVC projectors offer some of the greatest 'bang for the buck' out there.

I also use different projectors for different content. I watched "Chernobyl Diaries' on Saturday night with the RS55. None of the under 10k projectors can come close to replicating this level of black detail, 1/2 the movie is shot in the dark and it wouldn't have had the same impact on lesser performing models. Drop to black = lights outs which adds to the fear of this movie.

Hey guys, can someone recommend a neutral density filter for my RS40? Currently I am projecting onto a 110" diagonal high power screen. I have the lamp on normal and the lens aperture at -15. Bulb only has about 15 hours on it and overall it looks great, but I need to tone it down just a bit more if possible until the buld dims further.

I know about them, but I have no idea which one to get and if there is a size that will just clip on or I have to rig something.

I used to have a Hoya HMC ND2 filter myself as I found cheaper plastic ones caused odd reflections back into the projector which really lowered ANSI contrast. I don't know what size you would need, but I used a 77mm on an older Panasonic and used a small amount of BluTak to hold it in place.

How many mm is the RS40 lens?
Where can I buy a genuine replacement bulb for RS40 (It cannot be ebay)? I tried to search online but most of the links are about bulb problems, not where it can be purchased. Thanks.

Crap....I need the front sensor to work as I use it religiously as I have both a 2.35 screen with an anamorphic lens and 1.78 screen and remove the A-lens for the 1.78 screen and have to zoom, shift, and refocus. Looks like I will be contacting JVC.

Same problem with my RS-40: only if a leave the ac power disconnected for a day, front sensor works, but only for half an hour then only back sensor still works.
I've contacted my reseller and he says that may be a problem with the control board.

Luigi,

Thanks for your response. My RS40 is still doing this but then when I unplug for a while and replug power cable back in it then works so it sounds like we have exactly the same problem. I have a RS4810 preordered so if my finances are ok to get it when AVS calls me I will just wait till then to send my RS40 in to be repaired under warranty as my warranty is good until April 2013. I don't wanna be without my RS40 as I have several movies I am ready to watch.

Thanks,
Mike

I'm in the same position, my warranty will expire december 2013, until then i need to find the courage to stay apart from it for at less 15 days.
A good solution until then may be an external Infrared sensor, if anyone know a 3,5mm jack Ir sensor compatible with jvc projector, i'll appreciate that.
Sorry for my poor english.
Ciao
Luigi

I just got one from JVC directly on 10/15/2012 couple days ago, unused. (have the order invoice) It is the latest one with a flapper inside. We can talk if you have any questions.

I replied in your other thread that asked this question. You have the first update to the firmware that was released shortly after the X3 began shipping in late 2010. You should update to the current version.

I have the RS40. Does the X3 firmware work or do they have a seperate version? I think I know the answer but just want to be sure. Also, the inquiry above's numbers don't show anything that looks like 1.5. What am I missing there?
It's for both models. It says so in the installation instructions.
Can somebody please post a correct model number for RS40 replacement bulb? I would like to but directly from JVC but cannot find it at the JVC website. Thanks.

Today, I turned on the projector and got lamp light (middle light) blinking in orange and other two lights staying in red. I am not seeing projector illuminating the screen. What does it mean? The lamp cover is not all closing. I tried pressing standby multiple times and it does not responding. Only after disconnecting power chord and then connecting it, I see standby getting on. Then when I press projector "on", it is again taking to middle lamp indicator blinking orange and other two remaining red.

Two days back, we noticed picture is little dark. However after increasing brightness little more, we were able to watch. It is only 950 hours. I also don't turn on/off frequently. I leave it on if I take break for 20 or 30 minutes. It is ridiculous to find that lamp is not working just after 950 hours. I remember seeing it lasts for 3000 hours. I am not expecting 3000 hours. Why not even 1500 hours.

If I call JVC, do they prorate at least to reduce the price of the bulb. I will call tomorrow. Appreciate any input. 400 dollars is too expensive for me to replace.

If you don't get an image, your lamp has failed. Call JVC customer service to see what they can offer.

Does the RS40 series have the same dust issue like the older JVCs where after about a 1000 hours you have to open the back to remove some dust with a cloth?

Start about 1/3rd the way through this thread and you will see what you are faced with. Common problem. Hope you are under warranty.
