Just because it was a problem for some, doesn't mean it was a problem for all. I was a bigger fan than most of UC1, and absolutely loved UC2 (finished it the first time in a single sitting!). I never had an issue with the cover system--or much of anything else--until UC3. But, clearly, your mileage does vary.

I took a break from Skyrim, dug into UC3 this past week and wanted to give some final thoughts. I will say that I do like the game quite a bit, but my nitpicks still stand. I have been using the "new" aiming and still find it accurate and responsive, though it's different than the last game. Haven't even tried the patched in controls since I was comfortable pretty early on. People hate change I guess.

Moving along to the best chapters in the game, which are 12 (Abducted), 13 (Rough Seas), 14 (Cruisin for a Bruisin) and 15 (Sink or Swim). It's basically one really large level split into four chapters and it's very impressive. In many ways it surpasses the train level from UC2 in terms of action and the sheer amount of stuff going on. I'll be wanting to play this section again on crushing.

ND changed up some things this time around in an effort to not make the same exact game twice. I'm glad they took some chances even though some didn't work out so well. If they keep up this level of game then I'll keep buying them, even if they aren't perfect .

Ultimately, I think a mediocre Uncharted game is still better than most games available today.

Agreed, there are so many things right about Uncharted 3: gripping adventure, exotic travel in incredible set pieces, likeable characters, great audio and video, plus the co-op and improvements to multiplayer -- that if we didn't love it so much, we wouldn't be so critical.

I spent so much time on Uncharted 2 (mostly because of multiplayer), I don't think anything will ever match the value I got it for it.

Very cool, where did you hear this? I just saw the ND Blog about patch 1.03 and it does mention FAL fixes are coming.

Ah, now I see the screenshots of the Cave (Ice Cave from Uncharted 2 redone in Jungle) and the Fort:

Certainly true. But that's all the more reason not to let ND off the hook. We should expect more of them because they're capable of doing much better.

In other ND news, just watched the Eurogamer interview with the folks heading up The Last of Us. I'm excited.

A few pages back, I remember someone saying that they'd be interested in hearing an opinion from somone who hasn't played UC 1 or 2, but has played 3. I just finished 3, I've never played 1, and I played through 2 just once, but it was the first game I had played on PS3. So, I don't meet all of the criteria, but I figured I'd weight in.

Just a little background...until MW2 and UC2, I had really only been into Madden and Tiger Woods Golf. I was pretty late to 360, even later to PS3, and pretty late to online multiplayer. The first multiplayer that I got into was MW2, so at the time, to me that was the standard by which I judged all other MP games. I know it's not good, but it's just how it was.

Anyway...I really liked UC3...actually better than UC2. Like I said, I was new to PS3 with 2, so that may have something to do with it, but I feel like I just paid more attention to 3. I'm fairly casual when it comes to video games, so I didn't mind the "guided" style of gameplay, because it just kept the game fun for me. There were a few frustrating battles, but nothing to make me dislike the game. I just started on the MP, and I hope to give it more of a chance than I gave UC2. At the time, I was so into MW2, that anything else just felt slow and boring. Now that I've got a bit more online experience, I'm hoping to give UC3 more of a chance.

The DLC maps pack came out on Tuesday.

The new re-done Uncharted 2 maps are pretty cool. All are visually different, and most have some tweaks.

The only issue right now is that most people who bought the DLC are hardcore players and use the FAL (which is ridiculously overpowered). So once you install the map packs the matchmaking obviously looks to match you up with other people who also have the DLC. This currently results in LOTS of matches where you are going up against parties of 5 all using the FAL. Hopefully once they nerf the FAL (and more "regular players" get the DLC) the matches will become more balanced.

Naughty Dog has announced that they are adding to their previously announced DLC plans. Previously, the Fortune Hunters Club included "the first 7 DLC packs" (said to be 3 skin packs and 4 maps packs). Now they said it will include 14 DLC packs. No specific info on what the additional 7 DLC packs will include, but they definitely hinted that there will be Co-Op ADVENTURE DLC. I'm pulling for a stand alone survival mode.

The saving by getting the FHC membership has increased from 45% to over 60%. No argument can be made now that it isn't a good deal.
So they just nerfed the FAL.

It now kills in 5 body shots instead of 4. Three head shots to kill remains unchanged.

Not sure that's going to be enough, but we'll have to see.
Yeah, I agree the fal nerf isn't enough IMO. I think it needs to still take more shots to kill or lower the rate of fire. Being only lvl 29 makes it extremely frustrating sometimes. I think I'm going to wait a little while before downloading the dlc.
Multiplayer players may find this interesting.

Apparently, there has been what amounts to a significant health decrease over half of the body. The legs are now taking the same amount of damage as the torso.

This was not how is was when the game first came out. The AK-47, for example, would kill in 7 shots to the torso and 15 to the legs (Edit: it's 7 torso, 10 thigh, 15 knee or below). Now the AK kills in 7 shots to anywhere on the legs as well.

If anyone has noticed that they haven't been playing as good lately it's not all due to lag and being matched up against more skilled players if you have the DLC, it's also because of this health decrease for the legs (hopefully an unintentional error).

I've definitely noticed that I've been dying more quickly lately, especially when climbing and rolling. The original lower damage to the legs helped rolling to be more effective in evading fire. Lately I've been noticing that rolling is basically a "death roll", and I was wondering what was going on. This also rewards bad aim and gives less reward for good aim. Also, you can bet that part of the reason the FAL had suddenly become so good a little while back is because while it should have killed in 7 shots to the legs, it was killing in 4 shots to the legs.

I was relieved when the person who discovered this posted about it on the naughty dog forum. It confirmed that something had actually changed and that I wasn't just imagining that rolling was less effective than before (and you die faster while climbing, etc..)

I am hoping that this was an unintentional error introduced in one of the updates. Just like they screwed up strafing unintentionally and then soon after fixed it. They said nothing about a change to the health system in any of their patch notes. And considering the fiasco with the change to the health system in Uncharted 2 and that they said they wouldn't change the health after release again, this better be just a mistake and not another dumb decision by ND.

Remember, in Uncharted 2 update 1.05 increased the weapon damage and removed the hitboxes/hurtboxes so the entire body took the same damage (except the head). They re-added the hitboxes relatively soon afterward while keeping the higher weapon damage. I can't imagine that they'd intentionally remove leg hitboxes again.

Another bit of evidence to signal it is an unintentional mistake is that the damage is correct if you are playing with a friend on split screen on the same PS3. If you do split screen on the same PS3, you'll still kill the other person in 7 shots to torso and 10/15 to the legs with the AK. But if you play online, it will kill in 7 shots anywhere to the legs. That screams of "mistake"

This is all documented in videos on the forum. I'll try to post a link later. I'm at work and can't access "game websites" on this computer.

Hoping to hear a response from naughty dog soon.

Is there a way to disable the DLC if you just want the original maps for a while ?
You'd have to delete the DLC and then just re-download when you want them back.
Here's the video documenting the change in the leg damage that is hopefully in error:

Naughty Dog says the legs taking the same damage as the torso is intentional, and that it was this way since release.

I guess this doesn't explain why rolling doesn't seem as effective as it once was.

New DLC was released on Tuesday.

There are three skin packs plus a new Co-Op Adventure mode where you play as the villans. Eddie Raja, Flynn and Lazaravic have an Adventure in the Fort from "Drake's Fortune"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOdi_U9jqDo

On February 21, the second and final Flashback Map Pack will be released. This contains the other four Uncharted 2 Maps: Plaza, Temple, Village and Train Wreck.

Plaza is at dawn. Temple is night. Village is bright and colorful. Train Wreck is now in a desert setting. So these will be out in just under two weeks.

They also gave a hint about new DLC that they'll announce (and probably release) in March. Based on the hint they gave, it looks like it may be a mode that involves the fire demons from Drake's hallucination in U3. There is also some leaked info from a Best Buy website that suggest this will be called "Shades Mode" or something like that.

The predominant speculation is that this will be a supernatural survival mode, but that is pure speculation at this point. I'm hoping it is. I know many co-op players have been dying for a stand-alone survival mode.

After this there should be a Map Pack (or two) of completely new maps from U3, but Naughty Dog hasn't said anything more about that yet.

Flashback Map Pack #2 Trailer available

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1I6A9BCUzRY

The map pack releases Tuesday February 21st
(trailer says "available now" because naughty dog generally doesn't release info on DLC until the day it's released)
The Flashback Map Pack #2 is available tomorrow.

Also, they've confirmed that the "Shades Mode" will be a supernatural SURVIVAL co-op Arena mode that at least involves the djinn as enemies. Hopefully it will also include the supernatural enemies from the first two games, but they said there won't be details on the mode until it's released in March.

Great news for co-op Survival fans! Finally we're going to have a stand alone survival mode!

I finally got around to playing through this game. I beat it last night and really enjoyed it. Once I got going I couldn't put it down. Earlier in this thread, before the game came out I got beat up a little for criticizing Uncharted 2. Then when I saw people who loved part 2 making similar complaints about 3 I didn't have high expectations for 3.

I was pleasantly surprised. I think 3 is the better game. It still feels a little too guided at times and I had a few other minor issues but nothing big. The story telling and pacing seem better. The environments and levels were more interesting and there was more variety in game play. Good puzzles as well. All around good game.

Now it is on to multi-player. Are any of you still playing? I could use some more PSN Uncharted friends. I'm not great but I can hold my own. I spent alooooot of time in Uncharted 2's MP.

I haven't been giving the multiplayer much time, but I'm definitely interested in it. Feel free to add me; my ID is Taurus570. Just add a note that you're from the forum!

I'll add you the next time I'm on. I have to take back what I said about being able to hold my own though. I've been playing the last few days and I'm pretty bad. Skills from UC2 don't see to carry over very well and it looks like many of the issues from the Subway beta still exists. I'm not sure how long I'll stick with it especially since I can still find games in UC2.

Sounds good. I'm certainly not a master of this game by any stretch, so don't feel bad...

The Co-Op Shade Survival mode DLC will be available on Tuesday March 13th.

Here is a trailer for the new Co-Op mode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuUirbmITok

Additional information regarding this mode:

It's not ALL of the supernatural Uncharted enemies from the 3 games. It is only the djinn from Uncharted 3. Naughty Dog said they considered using the monsters from the first two games but could not due to technical limitations of the Uncharted 3 engine. Hopefully they can implement that in Uncharted 4 and give us a true Gears of War 3 Horde-style survival mode.

It is not unlimited survival rounds. Actually, it's only 8 rounds.

It doesn't look like it has gold rush, but it does look like it has seige. And there will be a "marked man" objective when you have to kill a marked shade that will be heavily guarded by other shades.

So while this new mode isn't exactly what a lot of fans had been hoping for, it still looks like it could be pretty cool. Only one way to find out.
Well, in my opinion, Shade Survival mode is a big disappointment.

As disappointed as I was that Co-op Arena didn't have a stand alone survival mode, I still find it lots of fun to play and MUCH more satisfying than this Shade "Survival".

It's really no surprise, but the shades take forever to kill, which is more frustrating than challenging. Then it feels like 95% of the time when you get a shade near death your teammate winds up getting the kill. I just don't feel any sense of being overwhelmed with enemies while at the same time being satisfied with killing them (that's the combo that makes survival type modes fun). It really just feels like more of a chore, and that's really disappointing to me because I'm a big co-op fan.

And it's not "survival" it's three different game modes just like Arena. Except instead of survival, siege, and gold rush it's survival, siege, and marked man (you have to kill a certain number of marked enemy shades).

It feels like Naughty Dog has lost touch with what players find fun about these types of modes. There should be a much larger number of enemies that are easier to kill. The challenge is being overwhelmed by the "waves" of enemies that keep comming at you from all sides. There's a satisfaction that you get in killing the enemies (and an almost pavlovian conditioning with the "ding" when you get the kill) that is lacking in this mode because there are much fewer enemies that are simply harder to kill. To me, that' not nearly as much fun. Sure, it's a challenge, but it's simply not as fun or satisfying. I want to fail by being over run, but still rack up lots of kills in the process.

I'm sure I'll still play this from time to time, but Arena will remain my game for Co-op fun.

If you have the Fourtune Hunter's Club it's worth checking out. Maybe you'll feel differently. But I'm not sure that is worth spending $6 just for this. Disappointing.

Do you have the eight Uncharted 2 Maps (2 Flashback Map packs) installed? I've found that when I have the DLC installed I'm much more likely to get matched up with good players. This can be annoying in competative, but it is actually helpful for co-op.

Patch 1.09 has been out for over a week now, and it has added more balance to the overall multiplayer experience.

Not sure of the interest here as this thread has been basically dead for a while, but for those who haven't played the game in a while I can sum up some of the changes that took place over the past couple of months.

The FAL-SS was slightly nerfed, but this has had a significant effect on it's usefulness and frequency of use. The game is no longer dominated by FAL. In fact, most people stopped using it after the nerf.

Quick boom cost was increased to 10 medals and only lasts for 15 seconds. So it is not as dominant as it once was. Still useful though, and I still enjoy using it.

Mega bomb now only costs 10 medals, so now cluster bomb, mega bomb, and quick boom are all the same cost. I see more mega bomb being used now, which is good for variety.

The riot shield was given more "health".

Blindfiring while jumping with the shotgun was toned down, and the cost of the "shotty" kickback was increased to, I think, 12 medals (from 10).

The cost of paid boosters were increased. Ping and Bargain now cost $100,000 each. This has been a great move because stacking the regular bargain booster with paid bargain is now not so common a thing.

The speed of Fleetfoot has been decreased a bit (level 3 now closer to what level 2 was).

The stopping power of the G-Mal has been decreased (so it no longer stops you dead in your tracks after one burst).

The recoil of the AK-47 has been decreased (it's more competitive with the other guns now).

Overall, the game is much more balanced. While not 100% perfect, the gameplay is the best it's ever been in Uncharted 3.

Also, they've added a DLC toggle option. So if you have DLC installed you can choose if you want matchmaking to look for only DLC matches (where you'll likely come up against better players and more parties) or default maps (where you'll find more of a mix of players, with less lag).

And the latest Map Pack that came out last week with 4 brand new Uncharted 3 maps is really cool.

If you haven't played Uncharted 3 in a while, or left months ago because of some balance-related frustration, now's a great time to check it out again. And the new map pack (Drake's Deception Map Pack) is absolutely worth buying.

Also, for those who liked them in Uncharted 2, the LABS will be coming back to Uncharted 3 soon.
The patches definitely helped but I don't know if this game will ever be balanced. It looks like it is on a never ending cycle.

First it was the Kal7 and blind firing. Patch to give guns more stopping power. Then people starting complaining that the Fal SS is over powered. It was nerfed and people migrated to the GMal. People complained and the GMal was just nerfed. Now the blind firing squad is back and people are wanting nerfs of the M9 with rate of fire mod and the Kal7.

Naughty Dog made some nice additions to the MP in part 3 but they also introduced a number of problems. I'm not sure where this game is headed. Hopefully they can continue to improve it. For the most part I have fun playing it but I'm starting to think the MP will never be as much fun as it was with Uncharted 2.
