What is "Game Mode" on LG tvs?

I see Game Mode on my tv.. but I just feel like its a change in settings such as brightness, etc.. Just like the different color presets.

I have an LG 42LH30.. and on some games like COD Black Ops... When I turn, it doesn't seem as smooth or fluid. I am thinking that it is because I am on an LCD tv?

But... My friend has a Samsung LCD tv.. and while his looks pretty smooth (although he is on xbox and im on ps3).. there is a lag from the time you turn the analog stick to when it turns on the tv??

If I could have his smoothness with my latency(??).. would be great.

But anyway.. just wondering if Game Mode actually does something to help with motion blur?

Game mode turns off video processing as that delays the image something like 30-60 ms. That smoothness comes [eta: at the cost of] a short delay..

Smoothness comes with a short delay?

So is that normal? TVs that have a really smooth gameplay is slightly delayed? It seems like that is what I have noticed.

My tv has some blur.. but the reaction from the time i hit the button or whatever is instant.

Your friend's Samsung is probably smoother because his TV has frame interpolation capabilities. Unfortunately, extra processing time is required for frame interpolation, so that's why his Samsung experiences greater input lag.

"If I could have his smoothness with my latency(??).. would be great." -- that my friend, is the unicorn of the LCD-TV world. Its one or the other, or a compromise for both.

Sorry, brain fart. I meant to say that game mode speed comes at the expense of smoothness. Thepooh has it right.

Yeah he as a 120hz and I have a 60hz.

Sorry guys I was just googling this up really and found this. I always knew that Game Mode reduces input lag, but the frame interpolation thing? What's up with that?

Are you guys saying that when game mode is enabled, artificial frames ( frame interpolation?) are not created, meaning lower lag?
