the panasonic 103 does not look that great and is pretty dim. the sharp 108 LCD looks pretty nice and is brighter.

beyond that there are a few options, or you have to get into tiles images (not a great choice) or projection. it is possible the client has incorrect assumptions about projection... it is worth asking about.

Did this improve with the new series? These are using second generation NeoPDP technology, but also offer 3D, so faster decaying phosphors may hurt lightoutput. Have deliveries on the new 85/103/152.5 Panasonics started yet? Didn't make it to IBC, so have yet to see them, perhaps ISE early february.

That makes it much easier and pretty straightforward. It is likely a high lumen (brightness) projector to light up 13 foot screen ($50-$66K), plus screen and mount. Should be within your budget.

you can get whatever you want for whatever amount of money you want. however this is an area where asking questions blindly on a website is silly.

I have heard the newer 103" Panasonic plasma is quite good. Just make sure you get the newer one with a 40,000:1 contrast ratio, the Panasonic TH-103PF12U. The newest 3D model is too expensive and not available in the USA yet.

Large scale rear projection is great but requires considerable amounts of space. If the client is not a major high-tech enthusiast, the plasma would be easier.

there will be a lot of large 4K displays and also panasonic will show there
new line up 85" 103" and 152".

may i will go also with a huge direct display in my living room
but i will not buy anything that only have 1920x1080.

That would be good advice if you were buying a TV for yourself and don't mind it if the product is never manufactured, is late, or has reliability issues. But if you are running a business like OP is, you don't want to remotely count on new product introduction at CES.

As for 4K, as you know there is no content in that format with no indication that anything is coming. And many of the 4K solutions I have seen in LCD flat panels are multiple units joined together with a seam. If you sit very close, 4K has a benefit of reducing the chances that you see the pixel structure of the panel. If you sit further out, you will instead get a softer image than 1080p.

the about 5 companys that will show a 4k display at ces will have this display

this are all the big names.
its not like the laser tv where people speculate since 10 yeas about it.
hdmi chips that can do 4k are there since some weeks.

i have much 2D and 3D in 4K material and even above 4k and all consumers
that have a full format still digital or a better one will be very happy to have such a display in 6 month from now.
there are many people out that do only stills in high quality but they have
no display to show this pictures.

i will be happy to see such displays as it will be a start to go above 2k.
if it will not stars now its again and again the chicken and egg problem.
display manufacturer will say there is no content.
content holder will say there are no 4k displays and so on.

since 1998 i saw full hd and now 13 years later its time offers something new.

it will be sad if someone buy today a big plasma for $30k(85") or even $100k
(103")and some month later he saw a 4k for the same price.
but yes if you like it today and you have the money to change
it in 7 months from now yes go and get what you can buy today.

They showed 4K TVs last year and none where for sale then. Would it be different this year. Maybe. I suspect there will be more of a push this year but with the down economy and such, it is not a sure bet.


And what sources, and processors/AVRs will have such a support? Your only connection if that, will be from the PC or dedicated black boxes.


I don't think there is a big market for people to buy 4k displays to show their still pictures. People (enthusiasts) want movies and that content unfortunately is not here.


Not in this case. Studios want to protect the theatrical market. Going beyond 1080p will blur that line completely. Seeing how the move from 480p to 1080p was not as big of a demand creator as once thought, studios are much more cagey about chasing resolution yet again. All forces are toward better convenience and access than more fidelity.

To be sure, 4K displays will come and be commonplace not because they are needed or there is content for it. But because it is a very powerful marketing tool. People will automatically think 4K means their content all of a sudden is much higher resolution when it reality nothing changes in that respect.


That is one reason to not buy a large flat panel. By using rear projection, you can swap the projector when the time comes that you want 4K image at much lower cost than replacing a 100 inch flat panel.

There will be zero motivation to change out a 1080p display in 7 months to 4K. Nothing in the industry is going to shift demand that way.

Again, the only reason to want a 4K in this world is if you sit very close to the display and see the pixel structure. Outside of that, you want to be careful to not get pulled into that marketing machine .

you are right about that if you not sit close enough that 4k make no sense at all.
with a 16:9 tv if you sit 1.75 times the screen in wide back you not can see more than full hd 1920x1080.
i always say you need to sit about 1,2-1,0 the screen wide back to see all the 4k content but some people not like to sit that close.

Somewhat larger (so not the 22-24" or so that IBM stopped making back in 2006, or competing units) 4K LCDs were delayed from 2006 into 2007, but those 56" AUO panel based units were actually shipping. In small quantities, yes, but they did ship.

Runco has a 103" plasma display as well.

Yeah they rebadge/rework the Panasonic, like B&O, usually the panel is one generation behind Panasonic itself.
