Miramax Partners with Weinstein for Blu-ray Swingers! Cop Land! From Dusk Till Dawn!

No dates or 100% news of the titles but they get a mention!
The things I would do for Swingers on Blu are beyond thought!

Miramax Films and The Weinstein Company will work together to create new bonus features for Blu-ray releases of Miramax films, including roundtables featuring cast and directors. This is part of a larger partnership agreement between the two companies, which envisages producing sequels to existing Miramax titles such as Bad Santa, Rounders and Shakespeare in Love.

Remakes, sequels and/or TV adaptations could also be produced for Clerks, From Dusk Till Dawn, Bridget Jones's Diary, Copland, Shall We Dance, Swingers and The Amityville Horror.

You can get a pretty decent copy of Swingers from Canada already. I got it for like $10 at FYE earlier in the year. Worth it if you're a huge fan. Same for all those other titles in your thread title, as well as Made.

Alliance is frowned upon by a lot of people, but if you can get the movies cheap and get the ones with the correct aspect ratio, they're still pretty good and have lossless audio.

From Dusk Till Dawn!!!

Hasn't Weinstein only released a handful of Blus themselves? I don't see this as good news, though unlike most on AVS I am interested in new extras.

Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown with new transfers please.

Wouldn't mind Amelie and City of God either, so I wouldn't have to deal with Alliance or go out of my way to get them. (I would say Trainspotting too, but I don't think there's any chance of a new transfer, when even the UK release used the existing crap master.)

Does it have the CE extras?

The canadian From Dusk Till Dawn is pretty fine. I assume that it's made from the transfer that Miramax was going to release back in late '08.
I do know that Alliance's release of A Nightmare On Elm Street used a transfer that Warner was about to use for a release in September of 2008 but decided against. The current New Line disc is from a newer more refined remastering.
I only mention this because a similar thing may have happened with Miramax's cancelled release of From Dusk Till Dawn, and any forthcoming US disc would be from an even more advanced transfer or encode.
This would be good for the world.

I finally caved and bought the Alliance Amelie (the recent 1080p release, not the 1080i one from a couple years ago) and just saw it a few days ago on my 92in FP set-up. It looked marvelous! I'm totally satisfied and unless Weinstein/Miramax pull something extra special, I ain't re-buying it. Xtras seem to be all the ones from the 2 disc SE from 9 year ago ported over. Only downside is forced Eng subtitles, which are a requirement for me anyway

Hopefully "The Crow" too as a decent version is now showing on HDNet movies....

While Alliance certainly has their issues, there's no reason not to pick up their release for Amelie.

I still would much rather see Chaos (1984) than From Dusk Till Dawn (1996). Deathtrap (1982), Firestarter (1984), or even Over the Edge (1972) would also fit in this niche IMO. I recently picked up Life Is Beautiful from Alliance...

Vivendi (and Sony for New Theatrical Titles) release Weinstein titles. Weinsteins no longer do it themselves (like back in the HD DVD days and a short time on Blu-ray). These are Mirimax titles, not Weinstein, and they don't need their permission to release any of these on Blu-ray.

If these are coming, it really has nothing to do with the Weinsteins. This deal really only holds something for future sequels and such for their films. I'm glad we might finally get some of these titles...but I guess it'll be a wait and see game.

I don't see anywhere in that article where it mentions those movies coming to Blu-Ray. They're in a separate paragraph relating to sequel/remake talk.

I had just ordered the Hong Kong release of Pulp Fiction a few days before this deal was announced.

Hopefully this will result in a reissue of Hero with a lossless Mandarin track.

This is no excuse for purposely misrepresenting the content of the article. As Grifter states, there is absolutely no mention of any of those titles coming to BD.

You took the words right out of my mouth. This thread should be locked or moved into the "When will they be released?" sticky. Absolutely no news other than a partnership to create theoretical special features for unknown future releases.
