Must be because of all the hooters in 3D.

the aspect ratio kills the movie for me, would be so much better if it was full screen I dont know why they do this with 3d movies ruins the movie......

Is that the same Road Runner cartoon that is on the Polar Express DVD?

Just get an oppo or lg player and zoom up. Looks perfect zoomed.

Just finished watching it. I remember seeing a LOT of this movie's preview before watching a 3D movie in theater. And everytime I saw it I got dizzy afterward. 3D effect didn't work for me. So passed on watching it. Bought the blu-ray and looked fantastic. It was crystal clear and all the flying scenes in 3D were exhilarating and not distracting. Definitely one of the better movie I've seen at home in 3D.

After reading about road runner cartoon I had high hopes for it. And while it did live up to my expectation... I thought it was WAY too short. Just one gadget for the Coyote? Come on, he usually blows through at least 5 gadgets. Oh well. Still good though.

Enjoyed watching this well enough, though it's a bit too dark like most of them are. The 2D disc has much better PQ. Still it's very good 3D with no objectionable issues.

I read a review on blu-ray.com that this will be scary for young kids. Would everyone agree on that ? My girls are <10

The "body count" is pretty high.

FYI. Full Screen is commonly used to refer to 4:3 rather than 16:9 (which is what I think you're getting at).

Aspect Ratio is a directorial choice re: appropriate framing for conveying the directorial vision. I'm grossly oversimplifying here, but generally speaking, wider framing is better suited to an epic/grandiose treatment of the material, whilst narrower framing is more commonly employed for a more intimate presentation.

I can certainly see someone disagreeing with a director's choice of aspect ratio insofar as one might feel an alternate treatment may have been more artistically effective in communicating the story, but I balk at sweeping statements that imply that only a 16:9 ratio should be employed for ALL 3D movies. To me, this is almost as mind boggling as arguing for a 16:9 aspect ratio for all 2D movies b/c one can't stand black bars on a 16:9 display.

Let's not forget that 3D is a 'means', and not an 'end'. The point in making a 3D movie is not to maximize its 3D-ness for the sheer sake of it, but rather to utilise 3D as one (of many) implements in a director's toolbox to realize the overall artistic vision. In this case, I suspect the traditional attributes of a wider aspect ratio may well have trumped any enhanced 3D immersiveness one might have gained from a narrower aspect ratio. The argument you're advancing parallels that made for colour when introduced to film in the 30s. Back then, the temptation (in at least some instances) was clearly to go with as saturated a palette as possible to (over) emphasize the 'colourful-ness' of the presentation, an approach which (I think most would agree) fell out of favour in ensuing years for good reason.

My 10 Y.O. daughter loved it. However, she read all 3 books before the movie came out.

I was there yesterday and had it in my hand, but put it back. I'm trying not to buy everything that comes out in 3D. As I'm not familiar with the books or the story line, this is normally something that I wouldn't have given a second look had it not come out in 3D. Seems like most things that come out in 3D are must haves in some form or fashion. So is this a must have?

I'm surprised there hasn't been more 3D buzz about this film as it's really well done and the depth effects are great. This is one beautifully animated 3D production. It and Step Up 3D are now on the top of my demo disc pile. Such great color and lighting in every scene. Not a lot of crosstalk and I have a Samsung LED set! If you have a 3D set you need to see and enjoy this picture!

It is a strange movie though as its kind of in between an adult and kids pic. It can't seem to make up its mind. I think it would have been better and more popular aimed at adults. There is too much violence for little kids.

Guardians definitely ranks up there for me as one of the top BD's for visuals & 3D. Very enjoyable 3D experience, the depth is great and consistent, and the image is so detailed and clear, which is very important when all the characters are covered in fine hair & feathers . Really shows off my new JVC RS40 & HP 133"!

Definitely not a great movie for small kids; much of the movie is very dark, both in setting (night time, caves, burning forests, etc) and tone (mature, evil characters). But that said I didn't feel like it was in-your-face inappropriate. Ie, there is fighting but it's not like they are hacking limbs or throwing blood splatters up on the wall . There are some very beautiful scenes and the owls look amazing. So PG required, but not PG13.

Or to put it another way.. On my 5 yo daughter's request, I took her to the theater to see this early on before we had heard it wasn't a lighter kids movie. My daughter was initially interested but as the intensity or dark parts grew she would start looking away from the screen and studying audience members.. She didn't get upset though. Interestingly, when I bought the BD for myself a week ago, she wanted to see it and has since watched it a couple times without being scared. I think it made a big difference also to watch it during the day and at quieter volume vs. in a dark loud theater. (So yes she saw it on the TV in the family room whereas I watch it in the darkened media room).

So NorthJersey, it depends on the sensitivity of your girls, and how far below 10 they are. No matter what, if under 10 I'd say parental presence is strongly recommended.

Pretty good movie. I was expecting to see carnage from some of the comments here. The movie kind of ended abruptly. It's "A Chronicles of Narnia" type of movie. My 5, 7, and 10 had no problem with it. They just made Mom download "To The Sky" off iTunes after watching the flick so they enjoyed it.
