Official Sony VPL-VWPRO1 (VPL-HW20) Owner's Thread - Page 12

I just took the chart on page 14 of the HW20 manual and generated this in Excel... at 3.3 meters you'll be just short of a 110" maximum image (all the way down to about a 70" minimum image).

Glad to hear this, i'm still waiting for mine to be delivered to me. Hopefully i get it beginning of next week.

What kind of screen are u using with your PRO1?

I cant believen this projector is been sold for under 1800 euro's now, i paid almost 3000 for It not even 6 months ago, ill never buy Ã* device like this anymore just after It launches, pfff, ;-).
To the contrary, even with the release of their new 3D projector kit (VPL-HW30AES) in the USA selling at approx $3,200 (MSRP $3,999) the street price in this "old" VPL-VWPro1 is still higher than their new release!

I know, it's nuts. Bought mine for exactly 1800 Euros about a month ago here in Sweden when retailers cut the prices with 50%.

Awesome picture for the money imo.

Yuppers -and their new model has 3D...I should have waited and then I'd no longer need my 73" mitsy for the sole reason of 3D.

Expensive lesson learned , specialy while i was waiting for 3d all the time but the 3d version from that moment was 8000, so ithought it would take a couple of years before a sony sxrd 3d beamer would be affordable.

I'm still working on letting my anger about this go .

Ps . Same thing happend with my 608 surround amp , also cut by 50% after a couple of months ,lol.

Brand new HW20 owner here! Coming from an Epson 6100/8100/8350. I couldn't be any happier with this thing. Production date of mine was Sept 16, 2011, so it's pretty fresh.

In case someone else stumbled upon this thread in the future, I'll just leave this here in case it helps someone just like me:

-Amazing motion handling compared to LCD
-Adjustable panel alignment! No more returning 15 Epsons to get a good convergence! (never found one!)
-Great pixel fill-rate. Almost looks too smooth, but wonderful for movies
-No overscan!
-Amazingly low input lag for gaming. Truly fast
-Incredibly quiet on low lamp mode

So yeah, here's hoping to a long relationship with this thing!

I think I have found the replacement for my trusty Sanyo Z2000.
I think the Sanyo is still quieter, but I am hoping the Sony will have deeper blacks and more brightness.

Anyone come from a Z2000?
Can't compare a Z2000 for you, but the Sony in eco mode is very, very quiet. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed in it. The regular mode is definitely noticeable, similar to a modern Epson in eco mode. Sanyos are usually very quiet, so you'd be a harsher critic than most.
Thank you sir. I think I will have to adjust to a louder projector, if nothing is trully quieter than Sanyo. I am not looking at buying another Sanyo, only because I want deepest blacks possible, and the Z4000 does not provide anything as good as the competitor options in the price range.

Congrats on the new toy. I think you will be very happy as I am. I have 1300hrs on my first bulb and I can still watch with all the lights in my room on. I had mine pro calibrated and I love the pic I get. Good luck with yours.

Input lag results on this projector for future information!

Sony VPL-HW20 aka VPL-VWPRO1. I know it's not adequately scientific because it's against an LCD, but still...

VGA clone on a Dell Latitude E5500, nVidia 160M.

https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx...289&parid=root

Sometimes it ties the LCD, and sometimes it's 16ms late. Assuming the LCD is a poor one at 16ms (unlikely, but possible), then this projector has 16-32ms lag, which is excellent.

Was hoping to pick one of these up at a decent price now that the 3D replacement is out. They seem to have vanished off the face of the earth, however. I can find lot of old Sonys online as well as the newfangled 3D model. These and the HW15's are nowhere to be found. Is the a Sony conspiracy to get you to buy the latest n greatest? With Epson, I can go online and just about buy every projector they've made in the last 10 yrs, but was hoping to find a Sony, what the heck...?

1400hrs on first lamp and still got a fantastic pic.....
I've never seen an owner's thread with this many happy, non-complaining people.

My HW20 is a revelation of sorts, a lesson to me to think outside the LCD box and explore life's finer moments and Made-in-Japan devices. Looking at the dozen other threads I frequent, I almost feel sorry for those with lesser devices that are ignorant of the their machine's issues or are ignorantly impressed thinking that it gets no better than their machine. In my case, with my specific needs (low input lag, no overscan, low noise, high-ish brightness) it actually can't get any better. Are there blacker, more contrasty projectors at any price? Yes. Do any of them have less than 32ms input lag? Not a chance.

Has anyone use 150" on this projector? If so, what your opinion?
I just bought this projector - I have no need for 3D since I don't have a capable receiver and I don't really like the effects.

I've read that the lense shift is kinda picky with placement? Do I need the projector more or less in the middle of the screen, or can I have it in the "uppermost 25%"? Thinkin about a wall mount about 295cm from the screen (92" seems reasonable?).
