THX Calibration - No Logo

I tried to do a THX Calibration of a hannspree lcdtv and encountered a really strange situation with the THX Calibration where you adjust the THX in the center to remove dropshadow (this is after the 8 white boxes).

On my monitor the logo is not visible without changing the settings to the extreme vivid setting. In which case I can get an outline. When I increased brightness/contrast there was barely any notice of the logo. This is from a dvd connected via hdmi to the tv. Anyone know what the problem is and whether I can explain it to hannspree to resolve as apparently they never heard of THX Calibration before.

Sounds like your DVD player clips blacker than black signals (below video level 16)

The logo is suppose to be slightly above black, the drop shadow slightly below black and the background at black.

It's possible it could be an output problem with the DVD player. If the DVD player is expanding the output levels to PC range , that could cause this. The other thing would possibly be any kind of dynamic black.

IF it's a dvd output thing... is that a good or bad thing?

I'm lacking anything else to try at the moment that can output a test pattern except my wii or computer. Any suggestions?

unfortunately computers are totally unreliable (At least without testing).

I know you can put up jpgs from the wii, but I've never done any research on how the wii handles those images.

Probably just DVD player clipping below black. Not uncommon. Check the output settings on the DVD player to ensure video range is being output, and also check on the display because quite a few displays will also clip. And anything else in the chain, again not uncommon at all.
