'Falling Skies' on TNT HD - Page 31

Yup, FS definitely falls into the Buck Rogers category, only with better production values. It's simple escapist entertainment with no over riding messages involved. The last few scenes of the season prove that with the RPG and the Close Encounters ending. Light weigh summer fluff.

My primary reaction to the series was that it would have been thin even for two hour feature film. It seemed like a movie's worth of story stretched out over 10 episodes. I wonder if this series started life as a proposal for a movie.

And that's where the bad writing came from, IMO -- trying to pad out something that lacked sufficient substance to hang the padding on.

My hope is that now that it's renewed they will actually have time to come up with 10 episodes' worth of story.

Of course, everyone seems to have forgotten one of the other greats: The Outer Limits.

I've never seen The 4400. I don't even really know what it's about but I remember hearing that it didn't have a proper conclusion. I don't know if I want to watch another show with an abrupt ending.

As for The Outer Limits, I liked it at first, but my interest waned pretty quickly. I would throw that into the "middling" category.

The one I did omit was Fringe, which I'm catching up on now. I had watched the first few episodes and stopped because of the recycled stories (first episode after the pilot was ripped straight from Smallville and X-Files), and because of the awful Lost-music that didn't fit (yes, I'm weird in that that's what I focused on), but I've heard that they've since toned that down and people keep talking about how good it is so I thought I'd give it another go.

Who knows...maybe FS could turn things around too? Unlikely, but you never know...

It's JJ Abrams signature. He used the same music on Alias way before Lost existed.

In my opinion, it is. Falling Skies was something to watch on a Sunday night when nothing else was on. Period.

I'll watch FS next year just to see where the story lines go but I can't help feeling that this show should've been better. It gets a C- from me but with minor inexpensive writing tweaks it could've been upgraded to an A-/B+ very easily. That's what's so frustrating.

Since we're listing other psuedo sci-fi shows as comparisons. Anyone know if Legend of the Seeker is still in production? (nevermind - This thing called "Google" informed me that it's been cancelled)

That's about where I would rate it. As vfxproducer said, Falling Skies was something to watch when nothing else was on. It is in about the same category as Buck Rogers and the early seasons of Andromeda, not as good as the original Battlestar Galactica, but certainly better then Cleopatra 2525.

I don't know, I think FS and Original BSG could have learned from each other.

If BSG had been slightly more gritty and with less hokey acting (and muffet) and if just a few characters on FS could crack a smile or stop approaching every episode with the gravitas of a David Mamet play, then both would have been better.

Fair enough. I have to totally agree with you on the Muffet thing, AND the hokey acting, but for its time, it was pretty darned good. And "gravitas of a David Mamet play" is an almost perfect way to describe one of my issues with FS.

Oh, don't get me wrong I'd still rather watch original BSG. It's much more fun.

i somehow missed the whole series.
is there a site where they can be seen this late in the season for free?
i've done a good deal of searching, the farthest i've gotten was 80% thru the first episode and now i can't find it to continue.

They have been re-running the whole series recently (DVR has been recording the reruns for some reason), and if you have "OnDemand" I believe they are available there for free - at least they used to be.

Falling Skies Season 2 TNT

For those of us that actually liked the show ..

http://www.tnt.tv/series/fallingskies/

June / 2012 ..

Season 2? OK, I'll tune in. Second chance to wow me. Last season was kinda flat for me, but there wasn't much else on to watch instead.
Here's to hoping that this year will bring great things.
(or at least interesting things)

Are we going to split up "Falling Skies" threads into different seasons?

I would prefer one giant thread for the life of the show. This thread is not titled "Falling Skies Season 1 TNT"

What does everybody think?
(not trying to be a jerk, just an organizational freak)

Doesn't matter to me either way. Does it make a difference?
Well it will return.
Can't wait.
How about just call it "Falling Skies: the pointless, endless B****fest"
Is the whole first season over or do we have a back half coming?

... or maybe the:

'I really hate everything about this show, but for some reason I can't stop watching it or posting about how much I really hate this show thread.'

Wait a minute, I think that describes at least 66% of all treads in this section.

I know it will never get voted the "Best Sci-Fi Ever" show award, but I myself did like it .. of course, I also liked "Terra Nova" ..

Agree, better than all those reality shows.

I enjoyed season one and will be back for two.

I'm glad it's coming back. I need something to watch during the summer.
