all my runs are short like that, the speakers are all in-wall and go to a 5.1 outlet panel. so the techflex cables just need to plug-in to the wall outlet, then into the receiver which is a really short run. the total length of the cable is 2ft.

aah, gotcha. When you get a minute post a pic of the panel with all the custom cables running to it. I'm curious what it would look like.

I did end up getting 100' of the 4x12 gauge + flex wrap + cable pants + shrink wrap and banana connectors. The cables turned out awesome. But man, talk about hard on the hands when you end up threading a 45' run...the tech flex is definitely not soft :P

Issues I ran into, the 11mm pants were a stupidly tight fit on the doubled up strands of 12 gauge wire. Ended up using a screw driver to stretch the pants out :P

Had all the speakers wired up at home for over a month now and just got around to hooking up the studio 10s up here at the office. Unfortunately, the binding posts on the little pioneer elite integrated amp I'm using doesn't seem to want to play nice with the Nak locking plugs, so bare wire it is

Here's a crappy pic from my phone of the short cable length for the office.

Just wondering, why would you double up 12 gauge wire. By itself is overkill especially for the short cable you posted. If you just had to double up, 14 gauge would have been better.

Nak plugs are "you get what you pay for" plug.

Looks great Darth V!

Because I had a long 45'+ run and figured, if go overkill, I'll never need/want to upgrade speaker cable ever again! The short 3' cables here at work are just leftovers (used 93' of the 100' roll @ home).

The Nak plugs worked well for my paradigm studios and onkyo 809 at home. I might have a couple sets of emotiva plugs at home that I'll try for the pioneer integrated here at work.

Im not knocking you. Im just explaining to you that 12 is plenty fine for what you are doing. 14/2 would have been fine also.

I have a couple different tricks Ive used for longer runs.

@scoyne88....What Banana plugs are they?

Nak

Thank you. I found them, however I see two different kinds. One of them appears to be a little beefier but I can't make a decision which one I should go with. Of the fallowing links, which one should I use?

I saw those. The Black Chrome Ones? They look sweet. I was just worried that they only use one screw instead of two. They do look nice though.

The locking ones have two set screws

Could you post a link? I can't find the locking ones.

Edit: Nevermind. Found them. Thanks man. They look sweet.

Got two sets of those to demo, but they were very very tight in my klipsch.

Does anyone know if 1/2 in. TechFlex is to big for your typical 10-12 AWG cable?
Also, has anyone used the Mylar sleeving as seen here? http://www.ebay.com/itm/360207704386...#ht_500wt_1054

@ObsceneJesster

The banana plugs are by Nakamichi I bought them on ebay,
The sleeving is 1/4" clean cut from furryletters on ebay, and the cable pants are 7mm ones from partsexpress via amazon.com. Finally the speaker cable was 14gauge that I just had laying around, I think it was made by RCA.

I screwed up an ordered the wrong cable from Monoprice. I got the non-shielded stuff which was delivered today. Does anyone know if it will still work with the 3/8in TechFlex or if there is some type of rubber shielding I can install over the speaker cable prior to adding the Tech Flex? Please tell me I don't have to order the in-wall stuff.

Edit: I kind of had this idea to go purchase a cheap extension cord and strip the sheathing off of it so I can run the MonoPrice 12 gauge through it. Then install the TechFlex on top of that. Does anyone know if this is even possible? I really don't want to ship this cable back to Monoprice and have to wait another week for cable.
post #1433 of 2773
By "non-shielded stuff " do you mean this. I made my speaker cables with they style wire and it worked out just fine. FYI I used 14ga and 1/4" sleeving so this may differ on your size cable.

Yes, I have this in 12 AWG but I was worried that the end result would come out all lopsided. If you had to guess, what size sleeving would you say fits it? I was thinking 3/8.
post #1435 of 2773
I think 3/8 would work, monoprice says the cable you bought is 5.40mm x 10.80mm, which is .21in x .43in. From what I see 3/8 expandable sleeving expands from .1875in to .625in. I think it will work fine. The cable will look a little "flat" but it still looks good in my opinion.

I would use the in wall rated monoprice cable

3/8 fits best on the in wall rated stuff.

nezff,
Since you have some of those plugs in hand, how about a pic to show us what they look like in real life...please.
post #1438 of 2773
Don't buy the black chrome GLS plugs. They are beyond garbage. the locking ones are fine but the black chrome are trash. I bough 24 of them a while back and they only have 1 set screw, the black rubs off with your finger, the tips come loose WAY to easily. I threw mine in the garbage after paying $40 for them. horrible.

I have never ever seen the black chrome rub off. I have been messing with these same plugs for 4-5 years. I have seen tips come off, but Eric at Orange County will replace them no questions asked. Also the older generation black chrome non locking plugs had a problem with this, but this new generation plug has supposed to correct that.
