Great thread tho!

Love this thread - I've read the first 30 pages, and the last 5 pages so far...
I'm probably going to be making some cables of my own in the near future since I will have some leftover 14g in wall Monoprice cable.
I like the look and the price of the Emotiva kits ($4.99 per cable now) - I'm just curious about the size of the shrink wrap pieces in the kits. Will it work well enough on 14g cable, or should I go a different route?

EDIT: to clarify - I've seen a few people using the kits to make their cables, just want to make sure the kits will work on 14g.

Doing it yourself is easier because you can customize everything.

You guys are making some nice cables. I ordered some furez 12/4 and made some cables for the main and center speakers. Doubled the wires to make them 9/2. Figured with pushing 400 watts the extra wire would be good. These cables replaced some canare cables I made several years ago. Very pleased with the outcome. Highs are very clean and clear as are the mids and the bass is tight and full. Soundstage is wide and deep. Forgot to mention, used the furez gold bananas.

wow. not knocking on you, but thats alot to pay for bananna plugs and wire.
That's nice looking stuff, esp the 12g wire cover, but pretty expensive indeed.

Comparitively speaking, 170. per 100ft of that nice looking wire, 67. per 100 for Monoprice 12/4.

30. per pair of your bananas, 4.99 for emo kit/4 bananas, pos/neg wire covering and heat shrink tubing. Massive savings.

Yes know it was somewhat expensive, but I liked the specs on both the wire and bananas. Did some research before making the final decision on this furez stuff and found it to be better than anything else. Of course it's very inexpensive compared to other equal quality wire. One of the things that impressed me was the flexibility of this cable. The bananas are also top notch. Yes I could have spent less but wanted very good quality. When I ordered my stuff there was a 20% off sale, so did get a price break. All said and done, including shipping sleeving and heat shrink, have about $190 in these 3 cables. I know they were well built, know they sound wonderful in my system, and I'm happy. To me it was worth it.

the wire, yes maybe. but WOW the bananas?

LOL Yes the bananas were somewhat expensive, but when compared to other upper end bananas like WBT and Furutech they are more bang for the buck. They are made of copper with a heavy gold plating and hold almost as well as the locking type. WBT's would have been between 35 and 50 per banana and a little less for the Furutech's. Could have gone with less expensive brass ones but wanted copper.

I have some old canare 4s11 wire sitting around and I would like to dress it up. Will the 2 - 14 guage conductors fit into one 10 guage pant?
I would say no. Usually the legs dont get much wider if at all, just the bottom.

Got my 20 pack of GLS locking bananas in the mail yesterday. Waiting on my order of Furez 10-2 and 12-4 cable. All I need now is to find some decent RCA interconnects from my BDP-09FD to my receiver. Can anyone suggest anything where the whole thing is not made out of 24k gold and costs 10k? I don't want to use the bare minimum crap RCA cables that come packaged with everything, but I don't want a 2nd mortgage either. Suggestions are welcome.

Bluejeans cable

Monoprice's RCA cables are priced very nicely. I used to use a set of the premium component video cables and they worked well enough for me.

Specifications on copper wire, beyond the gauge, are meant to justify a high
price. 'Oxygen-free' wire doesn't provide any better conductivity, although the
process of making it so tends to reduce oxidation and this is probably a good
thing.

Copper wire is copper wire. Anything else is snake oil.

they are a little too stiff for me.

Avoutlet has the furez speaker wire a bit cheaper. It's where I found mine.

It basically blends in with the pants now. Perfect for those wanting the finished look but not so pronounced.
Yea, I wonder how it would look with the flat shrink and some flat black pants.
I prefer the glossy look as well. It looks more like what the outer jacket is on most cables. To me, the flat/matte shrink looks like plastic that has been weathered/exposed to UV light or some such. I should be getting my Furez 10-2 and 12-4 in either today or tomorrow. I'll post pics whenever I get them in.
