I bought this set of nakamichis off a dude in Hong Kong and they were here in about 2 weeks, sooner than I thought actually.

The ones I helped my buddy put on were the monoprice ones actually. His are all steel on the outside also, so to make sure they never touched and shorted out or anything like that, we put some heat shrink I got from work on the bodies of the plugs to act as an insulator.

I believe these ones are the same correct? 30 of them for $22 dollars isn't bad.

I just received the 100FT roll of speaker wire sleeve. Let me tell you for only paying $23 dollars for this stuff it looks and feels just like FlexTech stuff. I ended up ordering the 3/8" rather than the 1/2" that I used for my front speakers. Let me say that the 3/8" works much better with the Monoprice 12 guage CL2 speaker wire. It fits snug without stretching.

I will be ordering new banana plugs as well. Most likely the nakamichis since I can get a set of 30 for less than $30 dollars. I was going to go with the Sewells, but I would have to spend more then $30 dollars to do my whole 7.0 set up.

I am getting ready to go to work at the moment. So, I will not be able to do my cables until tomorrow. I will post pictures as well.

Looking good. How do you like those banana plugs? I'm looking for some to replace my monoprice banana plugs. They bend too easy.

GusGus748s,

After reviewing this thread, I built cables using the GLS locking banana’s. For my situation, I really liked them. I love the double screw, so the wire never separates from the plug and the locking feature as I move my speakers on occasion to clean. The fact they look sharp is an added bonus.

They are admittedly not the cheapest (alas, I have bought cheaper in the past, and am I money ahead? Definitely not!) and they are long. If you want a speaker or receiver flush to the wall, be aware these stick out a bit. Again, for my set up, length was not relevant.

The short answer—I would buy them again in a heartbeat.

Here is my DIY cables: Kimber 8PR 10AWG terminated w/ GLS bananas & Sewell spades.

Does anyone know of a place that sells these, assembled, in white? I need 3 for my fronts and center and don't really feel like making them myself.

Thanks for the comments. My speakers are not really close to the wall, so I suppose it would be okay. I don't know if I can convince my wife that I need them lol.biggrin.gif

The flavor could have been enhanced if iced with FlexTech .

Ok guys, I need your input. I am searching for some banana plugs because Emotiva no longer sells their kit. I already have DIY cables, compliments of my man cr136124 using the Emotiva plugs. But, I still need to do a center channel run. I need to find something out there that is just as sexy as the Emotiva plugs. Most of what I've found with Google searches are just average looking plugs. Let me know what you've found out there. I appreciate it.

Personally, I use Pomona dual banana plugs, because they fit tight and you cant short them out.

If you want sexy....can't help you there...lol.

I'm using GLS Audio locking banana plugs, but looking at the Pomona link I wonder about retrofitting the GLS Audios with a plastic spacer to prevent shorts. Any ideas?

This always gives me a kick, who ever looks at their plugs once you set the system up.

Mmmmeeee!

One of my front speakers is next to a door, so home made speaker cable and banana plugs are visible (see post #2177)

After doing some research, reading, thinking and looking at prices for product and shipping...I ended up ordering more of the monoprice banana plugs. They are inexpensive, they work and look okay. I order some more speaker wire pants from Parts Express this time. They are out of stock of the 9 mm one. So, I ordered the 10 mm.

The banana plugs should be here by Tuesday. The pants...probably till thursday. I have enough banana plugs and pants to may be do two cables. I will post pictures of the new sleeve I bought hopefully by Tuesday.

I commented the other day about how for me the gold part started to separate from the black part, but that was only because I snaked it down the column of a speaker stand. It was a tight fit and the friction was causing noticeable stress on the techflex. Under normal conditions you should have nothing to worry about.

Yeah they don't seem like thy would Frey. We shall see. Like i said these are only temporary. Then I will build 12awg blue ones smile.gif I also need to "dress" up the wires coming out of my wall going to my wall mounted speakers. Might fish some tech flex onto the end and put pants and bananas on the exposed end (this jot covering the whole wire w TF)

Thanks cr!! Yes they are from ebay. Super quality. Tighten down very nicely. I am impressed. (Even though deep down I want the emotiva ones hahahah)

here is a better shot of the finished product...they were a ton of fun to make!:

Nice cables. Although a bit challenging, I agree, they were fun to make. Knowing that "you" made them makes it well worth the effort.

I think the only issue I had was the red and/or black wires at each end would sometimes slide forward inside the outer jacket making them too long. I had to trim them a bit so that the wire pants tucked underneath the banana plugs.

Those are identical to what mine are going to look like, except I have a red stripe in the Tech Flex, Looks great!

I also would like to find a stash of the Emotiva plugs for making my cables.
