Good morning everyone,

I will be wall mounting my LG 47LD520 (~46 lbs) using a Sanus VMAA26 articulated mount. The TV wil be moved daily from the fully flat to fully extended positions. The wall is made up of ~1/2" of wooden lath and plaster and 1/2" drywall. This one of the few plaster walls in my house and as such I am less comfortable than working with drywalls.

I've searched the forum for information and came up with this thread but the mount used is a standard tilting mount. I have talked to support at Chief/Sanus and because of the VMAA26 articulated arm, they suggested adding a 3/4" plywood to the wall.

Being a tidy guy, I am planning to cut out a section of the wall and insert a 1" thick plywood in its place. Questions:
  • Mount is (W)22.6" by (H)13" and is made for 16" double-stud mounting. How much larger should the plywood be compared to the mount? Or should I just make it big enough to cover both studs (~18")?
  • How should the plywood be fixed to the studs? Lag bolts, wood screws, I've even seen drywall screws mentioned on another forum...
  • Same question but for installing the mount to the plywood?

Any help is appreciated.
