Onkyo HT-RC270 vs Yamaha RX-V667

Thread Starter
I've been trying to decide between Yamaha and Onkyo. I'm upgrading from a 3 year old Sony so either will be great.
Both the RC270 and V667 can be had for about the same price with the RC270 having quite a bit more features on paper.
My main concern is with video processing. Are Yamaha's and Onkyo's comparable on upconversion and pass-through; or is one noticeably better than the other?
Thanks for the input.

This is one of my questions also. They seem to be fairly evenly matched at close to the same price point.

Both are nice receivers. The 270 has an advantage in features and its amp section is a bit better than the 667. However, the 667 has the better video chip and a better GUI. One other thought, I recently compared a 667 with a HK 2600 and Denon 1911 and the 667's Adaptive DRC doesn't do as well as Audyssey and Dolby Volume at low volume levels so its something to keep in mind.

IMO, the additional features of RC270, such as pre-outs, networkability, make it a far superior receiver than the Yamaha.

the Yamaha 667 also has preouts. The advantage of the RC270 would be the networkability.

The RX-V667 has pre-outs but not networking.

Please realize at this time there is only a $50 or less difference between Yamaha's 667 and the 867, which does have the networking feature. My vote would be the 867 at this time. YMMV.

Just to share with you my experience. I own both recievers. The 667 is now in the bedroom. The rc270 is a better reciever. If you do not listen to movies at reference level, the rc270 with audyssey beats the 667 hands down. More features(rc270), about the same power.
