First off, merry x-mas and a happy new year to all.
Please forgive me as I'm not well versed in the technical terms of modern TV's but any advice that can be given would be appreciated.
I have a Toshiba 62HM85 and have just confirmed that the screen is not broadcast perfectly square.
I initially though I was just loosing my mind (at least that's what everyone around me seems to think
) but I was always under the impression that the top right corner of the image was tilted inward and upward while the bottom left corner was a wee bit lower.
The problem is very clear under the following viewing conditions:
1) watching normal 4:3 content, the black bars on the sides are not the same width top and bottom or compared to each other.
2) when playing a playstation game (i.e. grand turismo 5) there is a screen calibration thing that projects a perfect rectangle and you're supposed 2 expand the image until you reach the edges. by the time 3 of the 4 corners more or less line up, one is horribly out of whack.
3) Conventional HD cable and blu-ray seems to be OK, but with HD cable, if you bring up the cable box menu which overlays on the HD image, you can clearly see the HD menu's are off a wee bit.
I have my HD setup as follows:
PS3, cable box, HD-DVD all hooked into onkyo receiver via HDMI, and then receiver to TV via HDMI as well. Have never had handshake issues with the HDMI.
In addition to the over all screen squareness problem, the overall picture is somewhat fuzzier than when I had first bought it. not as crisp. I thought it was a bad bulb, but I just replaced the DLP bulb today and the problem still presents itself.
Wouldn't you know it, the TV just came off best buy extended warranty in september
Any advice that you can offer would be much appreciated.
