Advice needed on netflix streaming device.

I am currently streaming netflix through a TIVO 3 and have been pretty satified. However I get the buffering several times during a movie, sometimes worse than others.

My eathernet is hardwired to a gig bit router I get 25mps up and down over fibor so I doubt that is the issue.

I am goignto buy a blu-ray player and I am deciding between the oppo and the lg570, pretty big price difference $500 vs $150. If I get the better player will it help my netflix experance and get rid of the Buffering or have berrer quality I will go for it?

How have people found the tivo to be with netflix quality wise? Will the DVD player have any improvment? Is the buffering a normal thing I will have to live with?

How well does netflix stream with on your laptop? The next time netflix buffers using tivo, test your bandwidth to see how consistent the speed is. That way you can determine if it is a bandwidth issue

I have been using a TiVo Premiere for a month now and haven't seen it buffer once. Once in while it will show less than full bars when it starts streaming and I'll restart it to get full bars however. But I have never seen it buffer while streaming... I have a 6Mbps DSL line that always has roughly 5.2Mbps available (24x7).

30.7 MBPS down 24.28 mbps up.

I have the last generation Tivo the series 3. I know the new one is faster wonder if that is the issue. I know it is not the internet I am a tech guy and vpn all day so I am aware of my speed.

I used to stream Netflix using my TiVo HD hardwired from an Eithernet router. Like you, I was getting frequent excess buffering (5-10 per program), particularly on HD material like "Lost". Since I have broadband high speed Internet access through Comcast, I wasn't sure why I was seeing such an apparent bandwidth issue. So I decided to try another streaming device to see if it made a difference.

Last month, I purchased a Panasonic DMP BD85K Blu-Ray player for $173. What a difference it made! I have streamed over 50 hours worth of HD material with 0 excess buffers. Thus, I have to conclude that while my TiVo HD is a great DVR, it is a poor streaming device for whatever the reason.

My new Panasonic DVD player has certainly resolved all of my streaming issues. I concur with your decision to try a better streaming device.

I have a Tivo HD (series three I think...not the current crop) and FIOS 15/5. The Tivo is connected to my network wirelessly through an N adapter that connects to an N bridge at the end of a powerline set. Sort of a kludge but testing bore it out to be the fastest solution.

My family is heavy into Netflix streaming and between the four of us we probably watch a couple of hours a night. I think I have seen it stop to re-buffer maybe like 3 times over the last year. If you are having buffering problems it is not because of the Tivo's specs.

Make sure there is nothing else on your network that is gumming up your throughput. ********** for example will bring your network to it's knees even if it seems like you have plenty of headroom above it's traffic.
