What I bought:
i5 2500k $180
ASRock mobo from page 1, $104 - $40 'bundle' deal
crucial 64 $80 (109, but they matched the Egg)
2x4 @1600 Kingston $30, they don't carry GSkill, and he insisted they are identical to the Crucials, all his overclocked game buddies use it (and the AS Rock boards).
Logitech wireless Keyboard/mouse $30 - $10 MIR
So with tax I was out for 420.12 plus a $10 rebate. Roughly what I would have paid for the i3 build from amzn/newegg... or I can look at it as I got a free sdd and keyboard mouse.. I'm happy and again appreciate your pointing that out to me. They had both the GB and Asus mobo's, although Asus was open box (99 - $40 also), missing back plate and SATA cables. That coupled with the fact that the BIOS shots in Guide 1 could be identical on this board (same board) gave it a pussy factor of +2. Plus the sales rep liked the ASRock board better than GB.
From amzn last night: GD-04 $98 tax free shipping (2/24-27 delivery)
What I haven't yet bought:
PSU - I like the one that everyone is talking about right now... any suggestions? Assuming I add a video card and an internal tuner (although I might not add either) 400W should be enough...?
OS - Sales rep wanted me to buy the network version for $50. Not knowing enough I held off. I have some research to do on this one because once I get this box up and running the Vista 32 machine will probably convert over 7x64... or 32... (could be a while wife's email is pulled onto this machine from various web sites) so blowing out the whole thing for x64 is a decision point... again I have some research to do. I work in a software dev shop so all that stuff is taken care of by desktop and hardware support teams.
TV Tuner - I appeared to have missed the boat on the HD Prime x 3... but, will be walking by JandR on Wednesday so I'll probably pop in and tell them their site said good until 2/25. See what they say. There is still an error on their site "Price reflects instant rebate of $60", it no longer reflects that. I also have read many many positive things about the Ceton card, already own two extenders and only have 3 TV's (right now, 3 kids and a pool house on the way). However, I may refurbish the 420 downstairs (huge finished, not theater plush, but, easily converted from current playroom to man cave with bar, it is the finished part is 40x16... pool table...)
Optical Drive - not sure here, three choices any suggestions are appreciated:
1. Repurpose the BD in the Vista box which has never been used for Blu Ray (box has a dvd R/W drive also)
2. Somehow figure out how to get a .dmg of the OS
3. Buy a cheap drive
I'm reluctant to put a new BD burner in because of the 23.97 problem... I'd think I'd rather have an external if I'm going to spend 80-100. Not sure. Only pressing problem is loading the OS.
I must start down the evil path of remotes. I've ventured slightly into those dark woods.... for now an existing MC Remote and the keyboard mouse combo will have to work.
