The receiver shows that its getting a signal, so I know the computer is working.
I finally got my HTPC configured and stable where the family could easily access 90% of available content (everything but Pandora). I kept it always on for quick access; I only had to turn on the receiver and TV. I grew so confident in its ability that I disconnected and put away the Roku, DVD player, and WD TV Live. Now, I only get a black screen and the family isn't thrilled.
My problem is likely a PC related issue more than a HTPC one. Any diagnostic / trouble-shooting advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
My HTPC is up and running like before, but I don't know why. Does anyone have an idea what happened so I can prevent it from happening in the future?
I was in the process of running diagnostics as Sammy2 advised, starting with memtest on my USB stick. I used the main power button to shut down because the screen is blank. I used Gigabyte bios to indicate my USB device as first device to boot. The computer then bypassed the USB device, booted to SSD, and launched the normal desktop with the message that it was coming out of hibernation. WMC immediately loaded after the desktop, although I deselected that option yesterday while in safe mode.
WTF? I used both the reset and main power buttons many times yesterday as I tried to get the HD video to work. Why did it work today? I noticed that Win7 updated last night. Is that what did it? If so, what caused HD video to fail before? I'm very happy that its working now, but concerned that it will happen again.
