Enjoy.

So, If i go buy at little Roku XD, for $69 I can stream my movies to my other TV? I see I need the more expensive version if I want it wired. Roku will stream MKV, AVI's , MPEGs???

I don't know about the Roku. There is a whole other forum here at AVS about streamers.
You can get a roku to stream, but you have to use playon which is a paid media server that has a version developed for Roku. From what I understand it is a little difficult to setup. I have 2 Roku myself.

I bought the 3TB drive at staples from a slick deal for $100 plus tax. It was an external and I just removed it from the case.

Well I installed Plex from your guides onto my HTPC, went to Target and bought the Roku 2 XS $99(wanted the Ethernet connection since I don't need wireless), setup Roku, setup Plex to work with Roku, and it works great to stream my movies from my main HTPC. Plays MKV's well, wont do AVI's, but I have converted almosy all my avi's to mkvs. Pretty good option to use as a extender for cheap. Only using it on a 36" LCD Sharp 1080.

Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR31600
CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 V2
Thermaltake Lanbox Lite VF6000BWS
Samsung 830 60gb
Seagate 3tb Barracuda XT

Any opinions on this build specifically processor and case? Power consumption? Also looking at buying Assassin's guides. Are there instructions for how to better manage power consumption as that is my only real concern. Also is there something that renames media for me? I have been editing it all by hand for a long time.

As far as file renaming...

I tried to use "Renamer" that Assassin recommends but it was not working for me and had limited file renaming options.

I just came across "MC-TV Renamer" it looks to have more options for renaming.

Also found "Filebot" it looks totally customizable and easy to use. Was going to set it up this week, but....

The developer of MCEBuddy worked in my ticket to save renamed/compressed recorded TV recordings to the
D:\\TV Shows\\Show Name\\Season XX\\SXXEYY - Episode Name.mp4
format that is perfect for MCM, so probably don't need to use Filebot. Newest MCEBuddy version is 2.1.4

For $99, you can get a used Xbox 360 that can act as a Windows Media Extender so you can watch live TV, recorded TV and watch all your mkv, avi, mp4 and all your wtv files, all with the glorious eye candy of Media Browser.

okay, so ive followed Assassins guide word for word.......and i can't get HD audio to bitstream Properly.

system: i3 2105, 4gb ram, asrock h67m itx - linked via HDMI to an Onkyo TSXR308 AV receiver.
installed: w7, updated to today, mpc-hc + LAV filters, VLC 2.0

Using the raw file off assassins server (the dts MA one with the microphone whale lol).

using MPC HC + Lav filter (and yes, all the bitstreaming options ticked),
the AV receiver DOES detect DTS MA (it comes up on the front) - but mpc STRUGGLES to play the file. It'll do about 5 frames, then pause for half a second, 5 frames, then pause, and so on.

If I play the same file in VLC, and switch to spdif, it plays that same raw file in DTS only, and the file plays fine.

So basically......the bitstreaming is sort of working, but if it bitstreams HD audio it struggles to play. Why? what am i doing wrong?

im sure i've followed assassins guide by the letter! please please help assassin!

thanks in advance.

Im looking at building a tiny htpc with an Habey 600 case that has no room for a separate video card. Are there any Micro ITX mobo's that can do 3D?

I don't really care about 3D at the moment, but would like to future proof in case I do want to go 3D.
With XBMC I installed the version with the HD patch on top of everything... went to the config and turned it all on... and BAM... my amp was showing DTS Master Audio. I shed tears of joy!

What about other files? What about the more reliable file that I posted in the first part of that guide?

Also make sure that under Sound you have HD audio listed as a supported format.

This is an example. Ignore the top part but under supported formats you should have all the HD Audio listed...

Finally received my Silverstone GD05 today. I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't post pics of the re-build.

So here they are!

The "old" and the new. The "old" mini-ITX is being put into the micro-ATX case. No real reason to get a new micro-ATX motherboard and I really like the ITX motherboard so I am going to recycle it.

Here is the molex trick to slow the fan speed before...

...and after the mod

A view of the NVidia 430 that I installed to do little more testing. I have a 430 with a fan in another test rig. This one is fanless. Currently still using the Intel integrated though as it just works and looks awesome. I plan on switching back and forth regularly.

Here's a view of the new case. Notice my IR receiver in the top right for my Harmony One and the blue dongle in front USB for the RF of my Lenovo remote

Here's a quick shot of the setup that is used many hours a day by me and my family

except the little roku box is quiet can be hung off the back of a TV with sticky tape and plays MKV's a whole lot smoother..

a word of caution that box is a pain to keep cool. I tried it and am now using the 800 in a second build and had to take some assassin advice to drill a hole in the top for a third fan. The habey still runs 46-50 degree when watching a 1080p video file.

Yes, absolutely! Working like a champ and no real need to upgrade right now.

hey assassin,
i see you finally got the gd05. did the 5v mod work as advertised? i need to do that to mine, that is the only realy issue i have with the case.

nice set up bye-the-way. looks sweet.

Need a bit of help here if anyone can . A bit at my wits end with MB And the chocolate theme . I thought it would be an easy try just to get a known to work theme going just to see something different than that hideous blue background screen. All i ended up with was a hideous blue back round with some "film strip" icons (3) , one each that represents each recorded tv show. I have one "tv" folder with three episodes(files) of "The Big Bang Theory" . I have been through the guide 10 times and have refreshed mb that many more times . Checked and double , triple checked all the settings . NO CHOCOLATE for flocko

Anything ?

Are you talking about the background in MB or the background in WMC?

Did you try any other themes? Same issues? I had trouble setting up Chocolate also. Switched to Diamond and works great and looks awesome.

Hey Assassin, with plex media server is it creating it's own artwork or using the artwork you already have? Also - do you still use MCM for all your artwork with XBMC?

That's a good question. I will add a movie without metadata and see how it shows up.

I still use MCM for all my metadata and artwork.
