I have this exact drive in my HTPC for about 3 weeks now. No issues. Just works. Bought another one today along with the 3TB Seagate 7200 RPM for my desktop replacement. I'm finally getting around to building a new desktop since my current one is 8 years old.

I was wondering if you ever had one or not.

If it's your first- congrats. You will like it.

Big difference. report back your thoughts after using it.

You should be very happy

$120 is for 120GB is 1$ per GB. That is the magic formula for value in SSD's these days.

60GB = $60 64GB = $64 90GB =$90 .... you get the idea.

If your getting $1 per GB for a decent brand/model SSD your getting a good deal.

Hey All.....got a question as far as the whole HTPC thing and this looked like the forum to do it in. What are some of the uses of a HTPC ? Im guessing some uses could be a DVR, recorder, maybe music networked with receiver, and using your tv as a monitor, but im just wondering what other sorts of stuff people do with them. I have built a few desktop PCs and have been kicking around the idea of doing one for the HT, but really dont know the benefits? Even just a simple list of examples would be cool. Thanks !

Hey guys,
Finally got my HTPC build, super excited!
I got an issue though.
I hooked it up to my txnr809 via HDMI,
And I have it set to the recommended resolution,
But the icons and start button are a bit off the screen.
So what gives??
The TV, if it matters, is a Samsung HLS7178 (1080p).
Thanks guys for such a great threat!!
Special thanks 2 assassin!!!

Make sure your Samsung Aspect Ratio is set to "Screen Fit". It's probably set to 16:9

For me it's a few things.

First it is the convenience of having all my media available easily on my entertainment system. Media means movies.. Tv shows.. Music and pictures.

Second. I really like that I can play a movie at the touch of a button without getting off couch to find a disc. No waiting for FBI warnings or navigating menus either. Just bang- instant gratification.

I also like being able to stream movies from online and also play back on my home theater system movies or shows I have downloaded or ripped .

on Sharp's it's called "dot by dot " so it will vary what it's called
& make sure that you have the PC set to 100% scan as well

U-Tube on a 80" display

That's a DLP. You may never get a perfect fit. That's just a limitation of the DLP. Use the controls to adjust over and underscan.

See my guide for more on setting up your HDTV step by step.

Forgive my ignorance, but where do I set that.

I just bought a Harmony One remote today. Where can I find a good USB IR reciver for my HTPC for use with my new remote? I'd like to have one that I can plug in the back of my HTPC and can set it on top.
Assassin,
I got it working with your guides.
But now, I start a movie, it plays for a few seconds, then stops and goes back to the movie backdrop.
I got a prompt the first time but couldn't read the entire prompt before it disappeared.
It said something about the video, an error.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

$14 eBay:

And the remote is pretty good as well! You need to set the Harmony as:

Manufacturer: ORTek. Model: VRC-1100.

Just an example of the one I use . E-bay has a lot of the HPs just do a search . The remote really doesn't matter. The ir reciever is plug and play and works great .

How did you get the movie ? D/L from net ? Burn from dvd ? Live ? Is this the very first time you played a movie?

Some folks have trouble like this and then find out it's not there htpc . It ends up being a bad D/L (if that's how u got it) . If you d/l crap in you will get crap back out ! I had this issue with a couple movies . Deleted them and found another source. Fixed .

Could be a codec issue . What container are you using .

These are a lot of the questions folks are going to ask in order to help you

I found a fix that appears to have corrected the problem without reprocessing the files. Under the SWAP tab in the Shark007 configurator I check disable Windows DMO video codec and no more playback issues with these files.

Not sure if this is the best match for my question but certainly related.

My computer is general use with htpc duties as well.

I have my main monitor set to HP 22' LCD via DVI and my pj set to HDMI and desktop extended.

While watching TV in WMC the cursor is locked to that window and can't move it back to the main display in a graceful way. I have used win key on keyboard which brings up the Start Menu and then I can use the mouse on mon 1 until I close a window and then it jumps back to WMC.

Surely there must be a Better Way?????

Help!

Thanks

What about trying to switch using the "Windows" and "P" keys pressed together?

I have added a few more Plex guides.

If you don't know much about Plex I think what you will read will really amaze you. Its a completely different way of setting up and using your media.

You will see once you read the guides. Too much stuff to post here.

Let me just say that I am impressed at certain aspects of it. And it takes a lot to impress me.

Check them out.

Thanks for your reply Flocko,
The movies are from DVDs, copied to my HHD via 1clickDVD software.
They were playing great on my Dell monitor, prior to connecting the HTPC to my AVR.

What codecs did you have before (if any)? You need to make sure those are completely removed.

Man, you are adding these things WAY FASTER than I can keep up with them. I haven't looked at it yet, but it sounds like PLEX is better than WMC/MB??
