Where do you find the time to do all this ?

My free time goes almost completely away starting June 3rd.

In the meantime I have created 10 new guides...
  • Windows Home Server 2011 Installation
  • WHS Updates
  • Installing Hard Drives in WHS
  • Controlling WHS From a Networked Computer
  • Installing the Intel Integrated NIC (Optional)
  • Anti-Virus for WHS 2011
  • Add Your Server to Your Homegroup
  • Power Options
  • Connecting Client PCs with Computer Connector
  • WHS 2011 Dashboard

They are located over at my new set of server guides.

FlexRaid guides coming next.

I've been lurking here for months, bought and followed your guides (as well as ReneTHX's - really hope that guy is ok and will be back soon), built my first HTPC, and have been having a lot of fun with HTPC in general. I soon found that a scalable server becomes a necessity real quick in the world of HTPC, but the learning curve is huge!! So it gave me great relief when I read this post. Thank you so much, Assassin! Really! Hope to see you around here and your blog as much as you can afford after June 3.

FlexRaid guides coming next.

It's a new blog, so if I need to sign up, I can accept that. But if not, my credentials from the HTPC are not being accepted.

Yes, its a new blog. I didn't want to increase the price on the HTPC blog for people not wanting/needing server guides.

A good deal of time and money have already gone into the guides. I am working on the server hardware guide as I type this.

Not a problem. I hate assuming and perhaps this would forestall others asking.

Is it $25 too? I'm not looking into building a server but heck It'd be a nice read anyways.. after I'm done with the HTPC Blog I'll take a gander.

Yes. Remember that this is a lifetime subscription.

BTW I have completed and added about half the hardware guide today along with recommendations and thoughts on each component type.

Enjoy.

very excited about this. home server was my next step and the learning curve is steep (at least starting from zero knowledge like me). given how easy to understand and step-by-step your htpc guides are, this should be just what I need. $25 earmarked for this.

I have the server hardware guide completed.

Enjoy.

I think I rocked the boat a little in some of my choices and recommendations.

Use this code -->EMCNEJB48

Is this still the HD of choice in this thread now that it is Seagate-made, not Samsung? I don't know enough to know the difference.

The $25 is not a problem at all. Not complaining just getting clarification.

BTW, I guess we'll be missing you around here in a couple weeks. I hate it when life gets in the way of hobbies..

Glad you guys are enjoying them. I have been working hard to try to get them finished the past few weeks. I hope to have a few more for you tonight or tomorrow.

Edit: Should have a remote WHS access guide which will be completed by the AVS user who I build the server for. That will come online in a few days I hope to complete the WHS guides.

Assassin,

I just upgraded my old HTPC with an ASUS P8Z68-m PRO mobo and Intel i3 2105... I cant get the speaker configuration to output DTS-HD and TrueHD audio. Under speaker settings, its not recognizing that my Onkyo TX-SR507 can output them. The configuration doesnt even give me an option for more than 2 speakers.

Please help,

Xzener

Install all drivers including Intel drivers.

Make sure your AV receiver is set to NOT pass through the HDMI feed to the HDTV.
Yes, drivers are installed. What is inteligent management?

Fixed the issue with only 2 speaker output... My AVR was outputting sound to the TV speakers. I setup 5.1 surround, but the supported formats still do not indicate DTS-HD and TrueHD??

There isnt an Intel Display Audio driver on the disk, only an Intel Graphics Accelerator. The driver is really old (10/15/2010) , but W7 says its up to date.

Go to Intel's site and download all drivers for your CPU.
