+1

I never expected to have my PC be so essential to my HT use. I expected it to be like a 20% thing, where it's now turned into more like 50%. My blu-ray player is getting sad because I mostly use it for 3D blu-rays.

New cables section added. I think you will like my selection.

correct on both of accounts. The file will play, but only when rendered in graphstudio and my avr does light up saying true hd.

When rendered in graph studio it has 3 boxes of directsubvob flowing from 001 to 003.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling your codec (LAV) or codec pack (Shark007) --- whichever you are using.

There were reports a few months ago of a few people that needed to do this for whatever reason to get it to be recognized.

Just to confirm the answer with out any doubt . Yes, if you are a paid member to "the htpc guides" you can use your same user name and pass word as a paid member of the server guides .

Just purchased the server guide and it work as described .

Thanks Assassin .... OK , now I need to get reading !

I am not sure why LAV isn't working for you. But if Shark007 is working then there is nothing wrong with using it.

Now don't tinker if everything is working.

miscommunication, it works when I render it through the actual shark components program where you adjust your setting. It will not play in MB or WMP. And to clarify its not the audio track that won't play, the file will just not load. I will wait till I get a TrueHD BD, back it up, then try it from there. I have a feeling it's more of a video issue.

Whenever a file plays in Graphstudio properly but not in WMP of Media Center the solution is to bypass Media Foundation. 1st try using the [x] SUGGESTED settings checkbox at the bottom of the app and if it still fails to play properly, disable the Microsoft video decoder on the SWAP TAB.

uninstalled, reinstalled, then used suggested setting with the windows decoder on and off. no luck. Dont know if this helps but VLC plays it correctly but is not bitstreaming.

Since I have the chance, I love your codec packs. Thank you for the awesome work. First time I have ever had a problem with them.

I'll assume the filetype is some 'ts' derivitive. The easiest solution would be to place the original, untouched contents of that file into an MKV. The simplest way to do this is to use Metafox downloadable from my Tools page.

Assassin -

I started ordering my hardware and while waiting I just bought your guides. Great stuff, it's going to make things so much easier.

I was playing around with Usenet and Sickbeard based on the instructions in your guide. Sure was easier having the guide.

Question for setting up SABnzbd. For the Usenet provider I've chosen I can either choose a general server or a server in US or a server in EU. Wondering which of these options would be best or whether it would even matter for speed and reliability.

Option 1: Use general server address and assign all 20 connections to it

Option 2: Use US and EU address. Assign maybe 18 connections to one, 2 to the other and designate the latter as optional.

Would option 2 be better or does it even matter?

Thanks

I'm not going to be able to check anytime soon this morning, but I will check it asap.

Honestly I don't know. I have never tried something like #2 so I can't comment.

You mentioned earlier it worked in graph studio. Double check again and make sure you are using graphstudio64 not the 32 but version (I am assuming you are running Win7 64bit)

I had a similar problem when I stopped using LAV and switched to Shark007, because i wanted to bitstream AAC audio. That's why I wrote the Shark007 guide on Assassin's blog.

I did so many installs and uninstalls of LAV and Shark007 that the registry files get all jacked up. I used Revo Uninstaller Pro (free trial) to completely uninstall both programs AND fix their registry entries. Then cleaned up the registry some more with CCleaner (free). After that I installed Shark007 as per my guide. And the "video codec" error in WMC went away.

Surprised there is no Server ISO available at MS to get started (licensed version is in the mail). Color me impatient Would have been nice to get a head start.

Will the Server allow installation of TV tuners and Media Scrapers using the HTPC guide instructions?

Definitely yes on the scrapers as I have mcm on mine. I would think most tuners would work as well. I will have to try on my hdhomerun.

Thanks. I also have the dual tuner homerun. Just seems logical to record and scrape at the Server level. If all else fails the HTPC could do that duty, just set the server to pick up the Movies and MKV folder when it changes.

Except that most servers have minimal video drivers and no WMC to do the actual recording. WMC was never a part of any WHS release best bet would be record elsewhere and copy to the WHS.

I think he was referring to using it as a networked tuner.

But you are correct about no WMC on WHS.

Im positive

Also I never installed LAV. DTS-HD is all I have to rip right now, so I'm going to stick with it and press on till I this becomes a real problem. Still got a lot of work ahead of me.

assassin.. been using your htpc for a couple of months now.. i only have one gripe.. . and this is with an SSD. the bios loading up sometimes takes up to a minute. then there are a couple times when it takes sometimes up to 5 minutes to shut down or restart windows. its very odd. SSD works perfectly and everything seems to work well.

That's definitely not normal. Send Ben an e-mail and have him look into what could be wrong with your settings.

I'm going to get started on my first HTPC build today. I've read the guides and will have them open during the build but I'm sure I'll still mess something up. Wish me luck.

I just talked to Ben. It appears from our records that you installed your own SSD and/or hard drive once you received the machine? If that's the case I have no idea where you could have gone wrong.

Otherwise, builds that include a SSD installed and setup by us which don't have these issues.
