Looking for a server case? Fits 10 drives natively and I think you could easily fit another 7.

I've followed Assassins guide on setting up mediabrowser and I'm still having trouble with subtitles.
I have my blu-rays ripped to .mkv with only forced English subtitles selected during the ripping process.
I've selected DirectVobSub in Shark007 for subtitle control, and I have installed DirectVobSub. However, when I play a movie with subtitles in mediabrowser the subtitles don't show up, and the DirectVobSub icon does not appear in my "hidden icon" area.
Anyone have any ideas?
BTW, the subtitles do appear just fine when I play the mkv with VLC player.

Subtitles are an area where WMC is particularly weak and I show you how to maximize what WMC can do in regards to subtitles. If subtitles are important to you consider also using XBMC which has excellent subtitle control. You can have both installed and can even launch from WMC into XBMC. I have guides for all of this for you.

Well the fact that the icon did not appear in the "hidden icon" tray made me think that the problem was with DirectVobSub... do you think the problem is with WMC instead, or just the two working together?

More often than not, movie downloads are inconsistent at best. A lot of the time, I'll download a movie, and it might have 2 or 3 extra audio streams, and some random forced foreign subtitle muxed into the MKV. I like the control of being able to get that crap out with MKV Merge or similar.

Agreed, i use mkv merge to remove the 'extras" also. I like how Sickbeard is able to place my tv show in its correct folder and rename the file to "S01E01". I haven't figured out the post processing for couch potato yet. I'd like it to (in my MOVIES folder) create a new folder with the downloaded movies name and place the movie inside.

I'll keep trying till it get it right.

Also has anyone tried out Qouch for ios/android? http://lifehacker.com/5905171/qouch-manages-your-movie-and-tv-downloads-from-your-iphone-is-exactly-what-every-usenet-user-needs#13390756560072&{"type":"iframeUpdated","height":255}

it allows you to control SABnzbd/sickbeard/couchpotato from your device. I've got it working from inside my network but i'm having problems getting it to connect outside. I'm having a port forwarding problem.... My ddwrt router is not opening the ports for these programs. I have successfully port forwaded many times so i dont think its anything i'm doing. I have a feeling my isp is blocking these ports.

I setup couch potato allocating movies to the correct folder by following the complete SABnzbd, Sickbeard, Couchpotato and Headphones setup guide for newbies over at the XBMC forum (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=120406).

Key steps are:
  • Set up a movies category in Sabnzbd (Additional instructions for setting up categories are at http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/configure-categories if the guide above isn't detailed enough). I created a category called movies and specified the folder/path as the location where I want movies downloaded to (In my case E:\Downloads\Usenet\Movies). I don't believe I entered anything in the Group / Indexer tags field.
  • Enter movies under the categorgy fo sabnzbd in the Downloaders section of the configuration (see post #4).
  • Configure renaming (see post #4 or this additional link which is more detailed).

I use SABnzbd to rename my Movies. I believe there is an option to move downloaded items to a seperate folder based on criteria.

I use MediaDog on Android, and it works very well for managing my Sick Beard, Sabnzbd and Couch Potato, when I use it.

Assassin -

I installed XBMC using option 2 in your guide, the HD audio patched build. I'm thinking about trying the option that uses MPC-HC as an external player instead.

Do I need to reinstall XBMC with a non-patched build if I use MPC-HC as an external player, or just leave XBMC as is?

Does using MPC-HC as an external player allow the selection of the "Adjust display refresh rate to match video" setting in XBMC so that the HTPC refresh rate is changed? Or is that done within MPC-HC somehow?

Thanks!

to process PGS subtitles (found on BD's) you need to select 'Use FFDshow's codec' on the H264 TAB of the settings application.
This will auto switch the Subtitles Control to FFDshow and your Subs should work in Media Center.

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but this is how mine is setup for movie renaming, and sorting. Settings are under Config>Categories and Config>Sorting in Sabnzbd

Two reasons. The main reason was audio and video getting out of sync when switching to a 24p source on a few TV Shows and Films. I messed around with all the various play settings, Adjust display refresh rate to match video, Sync playback to display, watching missed counters, hitting pause/play multiple times to stop the missed counter from increasing, etc. Didn't happen for all videos, but enough to make it annoying. With tweaking and watching the codec OSD I was able to get things in sync but just thought I would try a MPC-HC external player solution to see how that might help or not.

Second reason was just curiosity to see if how I might be able to improve video quality.

So I ended up setting up MPC-HC as an external player with LAV, reclock, madVR and got it working. I think I will just set it up so I can right click and choose my player and experiment with both internal and external. I like the integration of the internal player but the playback of MPC-HC is pretty nice. But don't get the benefit of things like resume video where you left it and if you stop the video doesn't immediately go back to XBMC without closing the window (hitting "x" or exit).

Try to run one of those files through handbrake to see if that fixes the issues. Could be a bad rip. I see it all the time.

Yeah that's very possible too. But given I was able to get things in sync by either changing to a 60 hz refresh rate and not going into 24 or by using one of the sync options in XBMC and dropping frames I think I may have been experiencing the 24 hz issue.

That said, back to my original question

Do I need to reinstall XBMC with a non-patched build if I use MPC-HC as an external player, or just leave XBMC as is? I just left it as is as it gives me the option of switching between players and keeping HD audio.

Also do you know if it is possible to use the resume video feature at a certain mark in XMBC if you use an external player? I'm assuming not.

Is it possible to set it up so that when you stop the video in MPC-HC the window closes and you return to XBMC rather than having to exit out of the window?

Thanks

Its been a long time since I used anything but the patched HD Audio version. And for me Madvr/MPC-HC offers nothing extra. So I haven't used either recently enough to give you accurate answers to your questions.

Is this still an issue with today's motherboards, do the USB ports stay on even during standby? Thanks.dr.jpg

If the motherboard does do that, most of them have jumpers for a set of USB ports that can be switched to supply +5v in standby.

For anyone that is close to a MicroCenter you can get an i3 2100 for 80 some bucks, 4gig DDR3 RAM for 20. Which are two great deals. I actually just bought the i3 for my new HTPC build. Figured Id share that for anyone that did not know.

I have two questions. The first relates to makemkv. I had a hard drive crash, reinstalled makmkv and the free trial peroid has expired. When I go and try to get the paid version, I am unclear as to what I need to download from the matroska download page. There are many downloads available and I don't see one that just says "makmkv" What is the correct download?

http://matroska.org/downloads/windows.html

Seconnd question. I have read the guides but am unclear on how to turn off bitstream/

For the budget-minded, they also have the G530 for $35 and the G620 for $50 (in store only).

Or, if you want to go the other direction, you can get an i5-3450 for $150, i5-2500K for $170 and i5-3570K for $190, PLUS with the K processors you get $50 off an already-discounted price on a Z77 or Z68 motherboard.

I am researching and on the verge of builidng/buying an HTPC. In my homebuilt office PC, I use Seagate 15K drives on an Adaptec SCSI card (I know.... it's been a long time!) and I love its performance. But, I wonder about the demands of multiple video streams on a 5400 RPM drive: If my HTPC has a dual tuner card, will the drive be able to keep up? My plan is for an SSD for the OS, but still the demand on the media drive seems heavy.

I run 5400 drives in my dual 4 tuner HTPC serving to multiple extenders and Other pc's with no issue. The limiting or bottleneck could be memory. I recommend at least 8GB if you plan on connecting multiple extenders.
