Assassin's Simple/Beginner HTPC Buying Guide - Page 483

Alright my current HTPC is definitely on it's way out and it's about time I get it replaced. Right now it's nothing crazy just a Core 2 Duo 3Ghz, 4GB Ram and a ATI 256mb video card but it can play 1080p stuff fine. I didn't use it for blu-rays so no cd drive is needed really though I may get one just for install. I was really interested in those Zotac barebones purely for footprint and power but after reading some of your concerns with service on them I figured I might as well just build again. Does your guide have anything for small footprint or lower builds? I saw the picture of your Habey EMC-600 build and that's the size I'm aiming for but understand the limitations with it. Drives aren't an issue since all my data is on my unRaid box.

I have been looking at basically getting a small one for the bedroom and this is some stuff I have come across -

Foxconn
http://www.newegg.com/Store/BrandSubCategory.aspx?Brand=2136&SubCategory=309&name=Foxconn-Mini-Booksize-Barebone-Systems

Coming soon : The AT-5600 is still based on AMD’s E450 APU, but the AT-5250 now sports an Atom D2550 at 1.86 Ghz. Both are more expensive than initially announced ($280 and $260 respectively).
AT-5300 and AT-5600.

Habbey

Zotac A few out there and some newer ones as well.

FitPC

OEM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006519%2050062944%2040000309&IsNodeId=1&SubCategory=309&Manufactory=62944&SpeTabStoreType=1

Ecosmartpc - I like the Ei5 build myself.....

I have been waiting to hear more about the Ceton app before buying it. Thanks for the guide. Will it control WMC add-ons like Media Browser?

No, it does not.

I am pretty solid with Mediamaster and use it to update my library. I find it works great on movies.

If it can't find it - I have it set to ask me. I just enter in the IMDB movie ID number and boom. Done. Perfect every time.

For TV shows- It does not seems to have this feature.

For some reason I can't get it to recognize nip tuck series. I tried a few different main folder names.

If I enter the IMDB number it think's it's a movie. It names the folder funny, and does not organize the metadata for seasons correctly - or fetch the mediabrowser banners and stuff.

Anyone have advice ?????

Just rename it in MCM, don't actually rename the folder.

I tried NIP TUCK

NIP-TUCK

NIPTUCK

I am confused what to do.

Entering the IMDB number does not work well on TV shows.

But that does not tell Mediamaster what it is... so it fetches properly.

I don't need to rename it. I want Mediamaster to fetch the coverart metadata and backdrops... folder icons and such.

OK I tried it and it came out as "NIP" because windows declined the " / " for a folder name.

Assassin, I goofed up installing Pandora into 7MC via the guide. I accidentally hit "View Later". Is there anyway to get back to choose the correct option?

edit: I found out how to get it to ask me the question again but it's not opening the page within. I'll start over and see how it goes.

edit 2: That didn't work. I'll await your response.

Try "Nip-Tuck" or "Nip_Tuck"

Over on the right you can directly edit metadata for a show. You can also right click on the show name on the left and do rename. I would first go to thetvdb.com or tvrage or imdb and grab the series name exactly as they have it. For exampl on thetvdb the I'd for Nip/Tuck is 72201 you can enter this directly on the right by selecting the metadata tab at the top..

Edit: the easier way is to use the add tv series option under media as well. You just plug the I'd in and it creates the folder.. You will have to manually move the files post.. If you choose to keep the alternate versions you have created..

For some reason it converts it to a movie. It appears wrong.

I specifically want it as a TV show... which has banners and season folders .... etc...

I used under media "add a tv series" ctrl+ T and it correctly identifies the series. I do a Manually entered I'd and use the tvdb Id above and bang.. Give me a sec ill post the snapshots to show..

I'm having a problem where my MKV files are not recognized (no filetype icon). I installed LAV filters only using the Guide's defaults. Some MKV files -do- play from Mediabrowser while others do not. Any ideas? Should I try Shark007?

This is what I had to do with "The Outer Limits"... it kept fetching the 1960s version and not the 1990s option. I now keep an empty XML file for movies and series where I can type in the tvdb ID. Clear all metadata for the series, drop the XML file into the folder and then hit refresh. It will then lookup the correct version...

Does anybody know if I can buy another nvidia 430 and use my current one to output video over hdmi, and the new one to output audio over hdmi? I do have a mobo that supports two video cards.

Reason I ask - my onkyo receiver has been causing some issues for my projector and I would prefer to run the video straight into the projector.

OK,

I am upgrading my HTPC as we speak and I can't remember which PLED is which.. and the Antec Case labels them the same.

Any advice??

Here is a snapshot from my phone:

You can see that I have a POWER LED and another split POWER LED with + and -

The back of the two stuck together one also has an arrow on the grey to indicate it's the +

My problem is which do I use for which on my motherboard?

Here is my case: ANTEC 300

http://www.antec.com/product.php?id=24&fid=4

Here is my motherboard: Asrock Z77 PRO 3

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77%20Pro3/

Here is the two manuals:

ftp://174.142.97.10/manual/qig/Z77%20Pro3_multiQIG.pdf

http://www.antec.com/pdf/manuals/300_EN%20manual.pdf

Connecting the Ports and LEDs
Note: Please refer to your motherboard manual for specific pin outs or location of front panel
connectors.
1. Connect the Reset switch (labeled RESET SW) to the motherboard at the RST
connector. Polarity (positive and negative) does not matter for switches.
2. Power Switch (labeled POWER SW) connects to the PWR connector on the
motherboard.
3. Connect the Power LED connector to the Power LED connector on the motherboard.
For LEDs, colored wires are positive (+). White or black wires are negative (–). If the
LED does not light up when the system is powered on, try reversing the connection. For
more info on connecting LEDs to your motherboard, see your motherboard manual.
4. Hard Drive LED (labeled HDD LED) connects to the drive activity header on your
motherboard or RAID card.

That is from the manual for the Antec 300

It's does not exactly spell it out clearly. I have only had this problem with Antec.

Coolermaster and many others label the connectors differently from what I remember.. so it made more sense.

The manual has some good info but I can't figure out which is which

Someone help me out ?????

That doesn't make sense, why would a case have 2 power LED's?

Doesn't the 430 have a DVI out as well? You should then be able to get a DVI/HDMI cable or adaptor to make that extra run, rather than another card. That is how I use to run my Acer H5360 3d ready projector and Denon receiver.

Good idea, I'll give that a try.

Basically because Antec cases suck....

They should have named it differently. I think it was a MFG mistake even the manual seems to suggest otherwise.

My first one.. the power button did not even work.

Antec 300 had nice build quality... but lets be honest who really needs a thicker ply steel ? Do you throw your PC off a roof?

Mine just sits there.

I prefer the more plastic type cases over the all metal. They are quieter and feel more solid. This one is tin-ey... and has an uncertain metallic feel about it like most metal cases. Boxy.. and slightly more noisy than a plastic or metal/plastic model.

It has lots of room inside. A true joy to build in. Could make for a modest server. The fan control is nice too.

But the power button and reset button suck. And the labeling of stuff sucks. It's louder than my Coolermaster Elite when the fans are on high. On low it's dead silent though.

@ Mfusick

I am going to take a stab at common convention . The larger combo power led plug is actually the power to the power button and the two single plugs are the power for the led on the power button (wow ,say that a few times real fast). Your right ... THAT SUCKS !

I sure hope they mislabeled it cause if that is s.o.p. then they need to take a serious look at there engineering dept .
