Assassin's Simple/Beginner HTPC Buying Guide - Page 522

Hey I am having a problem installing adobe flasher player to get the amazon instant video to work. No matter what browser and how I try to install it, it keeps coming back saying I have to close Internet explorer down. I have no clue what to do to get this to install without that message. Any and all help would be great

Nice, I'm about a month or 3 away from building a HTPC

Greetings,

Have a quick question. I'm planning on upgrading to the i3 Ivy Bridge fairly soon, but I'm currently running Asus P8H67-M EVO. Would there be any major benefits in upgrading the motherboard as well, or will I be just fine swapping CPUs to take advantage to the improved refresh rates?

I have been using media browser for a while now and want to switch to using xmbc now since it has all sorts of nice plug ins and just seems to be a much slicker frontend. However I have set it up using assassins guides and everything shows up and all but when I go to play a file back it stutters so bad I can even watch it. I use a nvidia video card. It's a newer build also. I play the same blu ray on media browser and it plays great. I tried it both with hardware acceleration on and off and I still have the same issue with horrible unwatchable playback. Is there something I am missing or a reason why it would be doing this ? I just want to get the playback to what it should be before I continue on with new skins and Add on programs and all

Any and all help would be great to help me solve this riddle

Change how it is setup to send audio. If using HDMI wasapi choose HDMI direct instead (and vice-versa).

Ok I just don't see that option and I am setting it up using your guides. Under system, audio output it gives me the choice of hdmi or analog. I do not see a option to choose wasapi or hdmi direct. I read it in your guide just didnt see the screen or option that showed that

Ok sorry about that assassin. I do see the option to change it down at the bottom of the page. I am able to play it. Sound is great but video is playing slow. It plays the mkv though with it set to wasapi instead of direct which it was set on. I set both the audio device and output to wasapi since my receiver was listed for both of them. Still not watchable like it is in media browser. Should I try to take a screenshot of the info screen showing it while playback ?

What AV receiver are you using? Is it HD Audio capable?

Turn off DXVA if you have it enabled. Your NVidia card should be able to use it but try to turn it off anyway.

I am using a Sony Str 5300es. It has no problem doing hd surround. Playback is perfect with media browser, However when playing back on xmbc it is not smooth at all. Audio sounds great but the video is just very sluggish

I read on your guide how you talked about trying it both ways. I have the same result in playback with it enabled and disabled.

With some NVidia cards you need to use "Sync Playback to Display" in Settings -> Video -> Playback.

Otherwise I am not sure. I would try to re-install XBMC and start fresh.

Have you tried with the Audio set to Analog?
Tried all of the above. Even the mouse cursor moves real slow when navigating in xmbc. The mouse cursor moves slow and acts like the video playback. Audio is great when I changed it to wasapi. Just the video moves like it is in slow motion. Think it may be something with x,bc. There is a big x over a speaker like a mute symbol on the top of the home screen of xmbc also. I mean could the program get corrupt somehow ? Media browser was a breeze but I'm loving the look of xmbc and also all the great addons xmbc offers

Assassin so you think something happend to the program itself and just needs to be reinstalled like you stated above ?

Thanks guys for all the input

Thanks again boss. That did the trick. Uninstalled and reinstalled xmbc, made sure all settings were correct and playback is now flawless. Thanks assassin. The guides are priceless !

That's good news (even though I paid for mine).

And now it's here, where it belongs.

Thanks.

And thanks, as always, to Assassin.

Interestingly I have received a few nasty emails and PMs from paid subscribers mad that I have made it public.

IIRC, Barbra Streisand had that problem when she gave a concert after her "final" appearance.

Apparently, the people who paid a premium to be at her (previous) "last" show were upset.

Go figure.

I'm not mad. I paid for both subscriptions, and it was worth every penny!

I got more than my $25 value out of it, so I'm not mad. Is the server guide going free too?

I moved the server guides over the the HTPC blog. They are the last few tabs listed at the top of the screen.

Thanks! I'll check it out.

I paid for both, and have not used them yet. But feel I was able to donate, for some good reading when I have to much time on my hands. Maybe some day I will build both for my home.

I got my $50 worth SEVERAL times over. Of course I also donate to developers who offer useful freeware.

The world is full of cheapskates!

Quick question guys. When I use the xmbc contellation app, everything works perfect. It will show and update movies and play movies. The problem is that where it tells you now playing and on the remote on the app. Even when I select a movie and playback it still says nothing is playing. Assassins guide shows it giving feedback status of what movie was playing. Not sure if I am missing something but the app it real slick but still would love to have the feedback work
