Sony HX800, High Contrast - Ghosting?

Hi all,

Recently picked up a 40 inch Sony HX800. TV is great, but I have noticed some ghosting on high contrast images. Like the new Xmen arcade game on Xbox 360. When Colossus walks across the screen, there seems to be a trail that follows him. He is a super saturated red, and the background is a white.

I'm sitting pretty close to the TV, I'm just assuming this is normal behavior, but I was wondering if anybody else can confirm this as a trait of the TV.

Is MotionFlow on? Try setting it on Clear 1 or Clear 2 and see what happens...

I've tried the different motionflow settings, seems to lessen the effect, but it's still there. Got the TV off Amazon, it's great, I just want to make sure this isn't a defect or something.

What are you backlighting, brightness, and contrast settings. Ghosting of video crosstalk will occur in high contrast scenes if the backlighting and/or brightness settings are set too high.

I think I found the term I was looking for...overdrive trailing...interesting. Regardless of the settings I use, I see this happening in certain circumstances.

I'm going to assume it's normal operation as pointed out in this review:

Weird. It looks the old phosphor trailing I used to see on my Sony CRT.

i do not see anything like that on mine. And until this morning it was used for the most part as a computer monitor. I am on a computer tho and not a console, i connect(ed) to a Geforce GTX260 via a DVI to HDMI cable to the #4 HDMI port.

Games mostly played are Everquest 2 and World of Warcraft. no screen issues at all.

Yup that's normal. I get the same thing on my 32 inch. It's typical LCD. You'll only see it if you look for it. I just concentrate on having fun.

P.S.- I love that arcade game. Wasted tons of quarters on it back in the day. Can't wait until I purchase the full version.

Great game!

Yeah, It didn't jump off the screen for me until I played this particular title, with the super saturated colors and such. It's hard to pick up in 3D gaming and normal movie watching.

Great game indeed! Yeah it's mostly noticeable on 2D side scrolling games. Other than that, not so much in everything else.
