Hello, this is my first post on this forum, nice to meet you all.

I am originally from Denmark, but living in rural Japan. So far I have been making do with a lousy set of plastic speakers (cost me about 5 dollars from new) and my decent headphones. Now I want to get a better setup, and have been browsing these forums for a while, but I have not quite been able to decide what to get. So I am hoping for some advice!

I have almost decided on getting a Dayton DTA-1 T-amp, which I have found on-line for around 80 USD (the yen is very high at the moment). Since it's cheap and has very nice reviews, it seems like a safe bet for my situation.

As for the speakers, I have so far been looking on the Behringer b2030p, as again, its available and have good reviews. I have seen it available for around 200 USD.

I have also been looking at similar Yamaha bookshelf speakers, thinking that it would be a natural place to start to look, given that I am in Japan.

However, the speakers discussed on this forum (for instance NS-6490) seems to be different from the line-up here in Japan, and I have been unable to find any of the models on the net here.

Yamaha's domestic (japanese) line-up of speakers can be found on the url below, if anyone is feeling adventurous. I wonder if any of the model numbers / model pictures ring a bell with any of you.

A few details:

* My budget is 3-500 USD
* The setup will be pc soundcard -> amp -> stereospeakers
* I might be upgrading the system to a 2.1 setup later with another amp
* I have no listening rooms or hifi shops within reasonable reach
* The setup will be in a room of about 10m2
* Most of the time when listening I will be pretty close to the speakers and I will not be turning up the volume that much
* Good performance at "party" volume is not a requirement

I mostly listen to classical music (especially choir music), blues, blues-rock, jazz, and soft electronic (not techno). I enjoy the complexity and the "noise" of acoustic music, and I generally don't listen to contemporary rock or pop.

So to sum it up, I am primarily looking for advice on which speakers (not necessarily limited to the behringer and yamaha models mentioned above) to buy, based on the details above.

Also, if some anyone knows of any good amps at the same price as the Dayton (or a bit more), I would like to hear about that too, as I haven't been able to find anything.

Thanks!
