Cheers one more question

Hi all

Can u use both the on board gfx and separate gfx cards hdmi at the same time or would u need to disable the onboard gfx as u would have problems. ?

As I wanted to have one hdmi to the tv and the other to the amp or can u not do this and would need a gfx card with 2 hdmi.

Just woundering why go for the pro motherboard, better build quality than the other board. ?

I'm not sure if you can use both simultaneously (buy a HDMI splitter/switch if this is your requirement?) but going through Lucid tech you would use your on-board HDMI-out and the system would switch the graphics processing between integrated and discrete graphics as needed.

Does anybody here use Lucid Virtu with their SB based HTPC? If so, what are your likes/dislikes about it?

I need some help. I am using IGP of i3 2100. Every once in a while while watching a video the video starts to skip along with audio (almost like missing a few frames from the video). I am using the Feb driver from intel site. The way to fix it is to restart W7MC. Initially it starts to happen every 3 minutes or so, and then if I do not restart media center, the problem gets worse and repeats every few seconds.

I have tried the latest driver, but no success. I have overclocked the IGP to 1500 mhz and it reduced the issue some, but it still happens enough to make me write up this post for help. Board is ASRock H67.

Help is appreciated.

I haven't really gotten into my system yet but didn't know how IGP drivers worked.

Windows update does show any intel updated drivers for IGP

I used it for a short period with a NVIDIA GTX 570 HD. The speed benefits of QuickSync were impressive but I don't transcode enough to really warrant it. I had it crash a few times but overall worked very well.

Intel could not care any less than they do about their problems with HDCP, and their "Tech Support" provides no clues on such a technical issue. But one of their engineers wrote an article on the broken HDCP over any path that includes an Audio/Video Receiver more than three years ago. It appears his cries for a solution have met with no action for the past 39 months, as the problem persists in the Sandy Bridge era.

I have read that "longer HDMI cables" could mysteriously solve the problem, for those who don't use the "hack" that allows ignoring all HDCP concerns. However, that is a bit vague.

Can anyone cite a specific HDMI cable that is known to correct the issue? How about a Blue Jeans Cable BJC Series-1 Belden Bonded-Pair HDMI Cable at 12 feet? Or, better yet, one of their less expensive cables?

I am using 2 60 foot long flat HDMI cables. One to plasma and the other to PJ from my onboard HDMI & DVI 1155 SB MB. I do not have any HDCP problem at all whatsoever.

I wanted to stop in quickly and just verify temps in my new build.

Hardware of note:
  • i5 2500k, stock clock
  • Noctua NH-C12P SE14

Software being used is:
  • CoreTemp v0.99.8
  • IntelBurnTest v2.51

After roughly 40 minutes of repeated looping tests, Maximum setting (max RAM usage) I'm getting avg/high readings as follows:
  • Core #0: 54ºC/55ºC
  • Core #1: 58ºC/60ºC
  • Core #2: 59ºC/60ºC
  • Core #3: 56ºC/57ºC
  • Idle varies 30º-32ºC across all cores

Are these numbers normal/acceptable for a stock-clock?
The only thing I can think to decrease them would be put in the higher rpm exhaust fan near the CPU cooler, might drop a couple ºC at the sacrifice of noise...

Any feedback appreciated, thanks.

Prefectly acceptable, imo.

Not really applicable to HTPC btw unless you are gaming on this thing or doing a crapload of transcoding (not to be confused with ripping).

I'm using a 3 foot long Acoustic Research PRO3 Series HDMI cable that cost me less than $10 at Amazon. I don't have any HDCP problems either.

If I recall correctly the discussions by the Intel engineer from a couple of years ago, the problems with some Yamaha, Denon and other receivers were largely because some of those companies were actually not fully following the HDMI spec, and ATI and nVidia had fewer problems that Intel because they weren't really following the spec either.

Thanks, but with no AVR in the chain, your setup is not subject to the problem of intel's broken HDCP with repeaters.

That may be intel's claim, but it appears that all receivers with HDMI are subject to the intel fiasco of broken HDCP. What receiver is connected via HDMI between your HTPC and monitor?

Well, mine is an i3-2100 to a Sony STR-DA4400ES to an LG 47LE8500, and I have never had a single BSOD nor any HDCP issues. There are dozens if not hundreds of other posters here with similar setups that are working just fine.

No issues on any of my Intel builds.

Denons, Onkyos and Yamahas mainly.

Mine is an older Denon AVR-3806. I have infinitely LESS issues with my Intel iGPU drivers than I did with ATI 5450 for sure. Even less than the Nvidia 430 as well.

SB MB HDMI -> 60 foot HDMI -> AVR -> 5 foot HDMI -> plasma
SB MB DVI -> PJ

Have not use NVIDIA for a while but I am with assassin 100% no problem with at SB iGPU. When I was using ATI 4XXX, out of 100 times maybe 3 to 5 times, I've no picture or when I switch between display, from plasma to PJ. But since I start using SB iGPU powered both same displays, never have a single HDCP or no picture problem at all.

Or the temps are higher than you'd like in HTPC?


I realize that the IBT is a major stress test and not a depiction of real-world scenarios but I wanted to see how the system stability was at proc load across all cores with a lot of RAM usage. If the temps in this test scenario stabilize and perform well then I know I have a great buffer for those times I do game/transcode/whatever

This. I don't put a lot of stock in stressing your HTPC when the majority of the time (again this is assuming you won't be gaming or doing a ton of transcoding) your CPU usage should be in the <20% range.

Agreed.
I only *like* stressing because I used to do it on my gaming rigs and I like to understand the capabilities and stability of the system. For true HTPC use it's way overkill but I rest easier knowing that at max load I'm still quite safe

Those who have intel HD Graphics, HDMI to an AVR then to a monitor, use Arcsoft TMT, do not use AnyDVD-HD, and do not experience the broken HDCP, can you share the specific brand and length of your HDMI cables?
