A/V Connection Problem

I have a Pioneer VSX-1020K Receiver and a Samsung LN46C750 LCD tv connected via HDMI. I also have a comcast dvr and a sony blu-ray player connected via HDMI. Everything plays just fine ( I have my tv set to external speakers). The problem I have is when I use the tv for internet apps (mainly Pandora). When I start the app and it shows that the song is streaming, I get no sound thru my external speakers. If i put the tv speakers back in line, I hear the song. I have tried adding audio cables from the tv output jacks back to the receiver, but still no sound using internet apps. I'm at a loss on how to proceed at this point. I contacted both Samsung and Pioneer but neither will help because the 2 components are not from the same company. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Your TV may be the limiting factor. It may not output any audio except that from its own tuner (which you are not using).

Kal,

But the TV puts out audio just fine via my stereo system and any other component I use (dvr, blu-ray, cd, dvd). It's only when I wirelessly connect to the tv for internet that the sounds dies.

All all those sources connected to your TV directly and not to the receiver? What, exactly, is the TV itself putting out to the receiver?

Kal,

All my sources (CD, DVD(2), Cable Box) are HDMI connected to my receiver and then the receiver is HDMI connected to my tv. With the tv speakers off, I can hear anything I select play thru my stereo system. But when I connect to the internet apps on the tv, I get no sound unless I turn my tv speaker back on. (The sound is not too bad, but you know how low end tv speakers are) To troubleshoot, I put component audio cables back from the tv to the receiver to see if it would play that way, but no luck there either.

I have a cheap JVC home theater, HDTV and a Playstation 3. All three have HDMI and digital optical connectors. However I can only use the stereo (it has only one HDMI input) when connected to the TV. I have to switch the digital optical cord to the Playstation (which only has one digital optical and one HDMI connector) to get sound from the TV.

I cannot receive audio from the JVC when using the Playstation to play DVDs.

Does anyone have any suggestions to solve this? Thank you.

Exactly. All the other audio sources are connected directly to the receiver while the TV's streaming is not. Check your manual.

Hi ASHVL, if thats all you have then connect PS3 to tv via HDMI, run an optical cable from PS3 to JVC and connect JCV to tv via HDMI.

Set PS3 "BD Audio Output Format (Optical)" to Bitstream found under Video Settings and set "Audio Multi Output" to On found under Sound Settings.

If you have more source then a manual optical switch should work.

This worked like a charm. I've been Googling for about two months now and haven't found the right answer. I inserted a Blu Ray disc and what a difference than using the speakers on my Vizio 55" tv.

I selected Bitstream (Mixed) on my Playstation. The other option was Bitstream (Direct). I don't know the difference but this worked. I switched to TV mode and the 5.1 sound was still there.

Thanks very much for your kindness and time. I hope you have a wonderful day!

Glad to help, enjoy.

Kal,

After some deep manual searching and some trial and error I was finally able to get my system to do what I wanted. I ran an optical cable from the TV to the receiver and got into the receiver settings and I had to configure the optical port on the receiver to see the optical port on the tv. Thanks for your help.
