Changing Username/Closing Account

I am looking for more information on what happens if you need your username changed or you close your account and start a new one.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1058446

I came across this topic by doing a search but it doesn't explain what is involved when you close an account. Would my former posts be wiped out? Could I somehow link the accounts?

Ideally, I would like to change the name.

Thanks in advance.

I have been a long time member under a dif user name but was told they can not be changed, I had to create a new acount and they disabled my old one.

You dont keep any stats, the old posts stay under the old name but the acount is disabled.

There is no real reason to change an account. Why sudden change. Why wouldn't it happen again. No real reason in why someone should change a username other then want to.

Correct, we can disable an old account and free up the email address to be used to register a new account starting over with a new date and zero post count, however the new account may be flagged & auto-banned as a multi-ID violation over and over which causes more issues then it's worth. Best to stay with your original account.

Correct, there's no good (or easy) way to alter the username once registered.
