I did some researching this morning. I need to figure out what's wrong with my laser temp gun, or find another way to accurately measure the surface, but it appears based on the 'touch' method that the steel box is not an adequate heat sink
for the most demanding material.

So is mine. Even when watching very demanding movie material. Again - this is the only content I have that puts my amps fans into high speed mode and heats up the SSR. I linked to the file below. I guarantee your relays will get hot also if you are only using the metal box as a heat sink.

The links to the epoxy I used are above for your guys reference. There is nothing wrong with using it. You hit the nail on the head. The relay is not getting adequate heat sinking.

As stated above, I have measured only half a degree difference after use for several hours including music and movie listening at stupid levels. I had some friends over for demo p, so stupid levels at times.
Relay is mounted on the side of the box. Coincidentally The box was on it's side, so the back of the relay was facing up.
It's not how long you have it powered on. It's the current being pulled through it. I can't replicate the heat with any other material I have.
It cools down very quickly when the music stops playing. Almost as quick as my amps fans stop humming. Something about this song really taxes the system. That must be why it's such a blast to listen too.
