Philips 40pfl7505 / 46pfl7505 / 55pfl7505 preferred settings

I recently purchased the 40pfl7505d/f7 Philips LED LCD TV. So far I am amazed with the picture quality but I would like to get some feedback on preferred settings for the Philips 7505 series TVs.

I have read the thread concerning the 5505 Philips series on AVS forums that deals with some aspects of the 7505 series but it seemed like a new thread would be more appropriate since the 5505 and 7505 TVs are considerably different.

I am currently under the impression that the settings of the TV need to be changed in accordance with the source ie Blu-Ray settings, SD settings, HDTV settings etc. Since the source I watch the most is HDTV, that is the source settings I would be most interested in. However, I also watch a lot of DVDs and sometimes Blu-Ray.

I would greatly appreciate it if I could get some feedback on preferred settings per source (HDTV, DVD, SDTV, Blu-Ray) for the following settings:

Contrast:
Brightness:
Color:
Tint:
Sharpness:
Color Temp:
Dynamic Contrast:
DNM:
Noise Reduction:
Mpeg Red:
Color Enhancement:
Active Control:
Picture Format:

Even if the settings are not source specific some general preferred settings would be helpful.

Also, as of this post I have updated the TV to 323 firmware.

I recently purchased the 46PFL7505D for my parents for Christmas and am curious of settings as well. They generally use it for HDTV. I had them set the tv up with the following settings based on the 5505 series thread

Contrast 85
brightness 53
color 50
tint 0
sharpness 2
color temp normal
video processing features off
format unscaled

It certainly is better off than the original settings, however, reds and blues still seem to pop out and greens/browns are a bit washed out. I'm going to have them try this setting from the 5505 series thread:

Contrast 88
Brightness 50
Color 50
Tint 0
Sharpness 0
Color temp normal
Dynamic contrast on
DNM off for everything but movies
Noise reduction off
Mpeg red off
Color enhancement on
Active control off or try on based on video signal
Picture format unscaled

I also need to check if they have the firmware update or not. I'm hoping to go check things out this weekend and play around with the settings some more. I'm not real great with this stuff, but the threads on here are certainly informative and I'm hoping we can get a great picture set up this weekend.

Thanks for your interest in the post Monza41. I posted this in regards to an 40pfl7505 that my parents purchased. Since I don't have the option to watch it very much, similar to you, I was hoping to get some setting recommendations from people that have had more exposure to the 7000 series LEDs. One thing is for certain, the digital natural motion setting needs to be changed according to source or hertz or something. I think it is safest just turn it off completely. As for the other settings I would need to use a calibration disc and then do some further viewing to get a really good idea what those settings should be at.

Thanks again for your input.

Just purchased 40PFL7505 myself and I'm curious as to the settings. I'm wondering whether or not these sets can be professionally calibrated?

^^ Bump

I found 40PFL7505 pretty cheap on Amazon. Amazon reviews rate it very good. Can the experts here tell me what are the pros n cons which I should be aware of?
Viewing angles maybe? Anyone please??

TIA

Saw those reviews on Amazon, but I'm pretty sure that those reviews are not from enthusiasts like you see on these forums. I have yet to find a professional review of this set. I bought this TV on stated numbers alone, but I'd love to know how it really stacks up. Also, the price was right.

So do you find any cons for this set?

Well, I have yet to have it calibrated, so I can't really compare it to my Pioneer 151FD, however, as a bedroom set, it's pretty good. I'm not a real techy, but from what I see, blacks are nice and deep and detail is real good. One real plus is, I've watched a few action movies on it and I've noticed no motion blur, artifacts or pixelation. Pics are very clean and vibrant...too vibrant. I'm hoping that a calibration will fix that. By the way, I have all artificial effects turned off. I hate it when film starts to look like video. Also, this set is pretty thin, so it mounts on the wall very nicely.
The only negative I see is viewing angle...you can't be more than I'd say, 20 degrees off dead center or the pic starts to wash out. Coming from a top of the line plasma which has a great picture from almost any angle, it's kind of a bummer, but like it said, it's a bedroom TV. I also don't like the little volume triangle, but that's minor. I'd much prefer bars or numbers. At this point, I'd have to say that the +'s out weigh the -'s. I'm still glad I got it over 60hz LCD sets that were equally priced.

Hello,

We recently purchased the 55PFL7505. I used the settings above for the 5505 and tweaked it a bit for our taste. We watch movies and tv mostly, no gaming and very little sports.

Contrast 88
Brightness 55
Color 39
Tint -10
Sharpness 0
Temp normal
All effects off

So far, these are working well for us, but would like to hear any other experiences.

Hi, I've just purchased the 46PFL7505D, my settings are:
Contrast 90
brightness 50
color 50
tint -4
sharpness 5
color temp normal
video processing features On (kinda like those feats)
format unscaled

Black levels look great but I've notice a green tone on skin, viewing from different angles the screen gets a "greenish tone", It has the latest firmware

I bought this TV on 3/15/2011 and am not satisfied with the colors. I've tried a couple of the settings cited here. I found one that's okay but I'm wondering if anyone has ever had a professional calibration and its results. I'd appreciate any info.

We have tweaked our settings a bit since my last post and the TV looks much better. I did not have it professionally calibrated, but did find some good DYI sites. I'm not allowed to post links yet, but try Googling Digital trends as I found some good tips on that site.

My new settings are:
Contrast 95
Brightness 73
Colour 39
Tint 0
Sharp 0
Temp normal
All effects off.
