Note: Black level will vary according to panel size. An MLL approaching 0.004 fL has been claimed by Samsung engineers (expected for 60-Hz sources across 6-, 7-, and 8-series lineup for 59/64" panels). Chad B has determined that the 64D8000 has a black level below 0.008 fL. CNET has measured 0.0071 fL on the PN59D8000. The higher MLL with Cinema Smooth engaged is related to an increase in the subfield pulse rate (source).

I am definately getting the 8000 if it indeed does measure 8g Kuro blacks like CNET said.

stable Kuro blacks, very thin tv, thin bezels, and you pay LESS compared to the competition (whos blacks may still be unstable).....


Whats not to love about Samsung's lineup this year?

Some outstanding questions...

- How does LCE (Local Contrast Enhancer) function -- sounds gimmicky
- Elevated black levels w/ Cinema Smooth engaged -- will probably only know after reviews
- Buzzing in 2011? -- the sets are 0.1" thicker vs 2010, so maybe they added some insulation
- Feature set of PNxxD7000
- Cabinet / bezel dimensions

I am glad to hear that they are actually thicker than last year. Makes me think that maybe they actually care about something besides making their tv's as thin as a piece of paper.

Is it just me or does someone other prefer the design of the D6500 over the D8000 ?



LCE (Local Contrast Enhancer) = The Kuros had the same feature. It actually works very well on the Kuro, so Im looking forward to this new feature.

The claimed 0.004 fl black, is that for the 59", 64" version or also for the 51" ?
Will the D6500 have the same blacklevel as the D8000. Does anybody know somthing ?

That Local Contrast Enhancer could be a double-edged sword. Until we have the facts and test the sets, those words could mean anything... It could even imply something like Panasonic's horrible floating blacks!

I definately appreciate the more conservative styling of the D6500 (black bezel and square base). But Samsung must have sold enough C8000 LEDs to go with the clawfoot and silver bezel on the highest range 2011 PDP. The question is what will the D7000 look like.

How did LCE work on the Kuros?

No mention of the motion judder canceler in the press release either. A lot of people are hoping for improvments in the frame interpolation algorithm.

Yep. Though I do somewhat like the brushed silver of the D8000, I have hated the shiny silver 'claw foot' stand ever since they started using them on the '10 LED LCDs. When I saw the mid-product year release of those low-end 3D plasmas, I knew we would see it on one or more of the '11 plasmas, as well.

I wonder this about this info., also; but they almost never reveal this at CES. It might be a while until we know this, just like last year; hopefully not.

I like the 8000 better. Having said that, both look amazong. My panasonic bias has just been killed. My next tv is certainly a Samsung.

I think the silver bezel and crows feet stand are horrible. But everone has their own likes and dislikes. The 6500 looks nicer, although is that a shiny silver item in the bezel edge? Panny did the same in the VT35. Can one of these damn manufacturer's not make a plain thin matte black bezel?

were any other specs announced at CES? specifically weight of the 64" D8000 and whether they are sticking with their active glasses approach for 3D or going passive like LG and Vizio? suppose that would impact price a bit...

Not yet. The first mention of the C550 plasma in the 2010 thread was on Feb 26 (when it became available on Amazon).

Still active shutter with IR-synching glasses. Interestingly, the LEDs are using bluetooth (purportedly to mitigate interference and range issues). I know the current C series 3D glasses have some issues there. The Xpand glasses sync better.

I was hopeing for at least a 65" model from them. I'm in the market for my new home theater and I love my 58" 7000 series but it's too small for my space. 65" to 70" was my sweet spot.

Here's a pic of the PDP wall -- including 5, 6, 7, and 8 series. Looks like the 7000 PDP has the more conservative dark matte bezel. Fwiw, it appears the AR filter is working well in that environment.

Per CNET, the D7000 also has the same panel and AR filter as the D8000. Unclear as to the local contrast enhancer. But definately no touchscreen remote or web browsing, all of which should make it a good value.

7000 is is then! I love their aesthetics this year! They will also reportedly have 8g Kuro blacks! Can't wait! Not buying another Panasonic after being screwed with my G10. The blacks will probably rise on the 2011 again and screw their owners all over again.

The PN51D8000 sounds really interesting to me. If it's exactly 16:9 then I ought to be able to use the Pythagorean theorem, a 51.00" would be 44.85"x 25.40". Is that what other people get? I currently have a 45" opening in an entertainment center, which I suppose means that a 51" Samsung Plasma could potentially fit. Could someone check my work or point me to any dimensional specs out there? Thanks!

2) Did you solve the image retention issue?
3) Does it "blink"?
4) Did you solve the 3D active glasses out of sync issue?

You'd have to account for the bezel width and exact panel diagonal. Rather than doing the trig, I'll just cheat... the cabinet dimensions of the 2011 51/59/64" models are the same as the corresponsing 2010 50/58/63" models (with the thickness @ 1.5")

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the 7000 series. I wonder how the input lag is for gaming? Samsung LCD sets are pretty bad. Are their Plasmas better?

In game mode, they are one of the better HDTVs for gaming.

What are the differences between the 6500,7000, and 8000?

If they all share the same panel (e.g. blacks), then I will get the 6500, because I LOVE its design compared to the others, and don't want any of that extra crap .
