Any word on the 4K ( 1080p X 2 ) TV units, AVR and HDMI cable companies are starting to bring these spec products to market and are available now.

It will be YEARS and YEARS before any major content is produced with those specs. Movies, games etc...

These are (relatively) cheap and are wide enough to put a 64" TV on them with ~ 4" of shelf left on each side. There is also over 8" of space between the shelves, much more than most stands. I bought the black one and am very happy with it, you can even move it around with the TV and components on it if you're careful.

thanks...I like the one in the first link...looks a lot like my current 50" stand that I bought from Best Buy

I just stopped in at Fry's in Concord, CA this morning and the 51D7000 and 51D8000 are both on display, the D8000 paired with the QWERTY remote referenced in a previous post. I took some cell phone pics but they being displayed in a dark room so there's really not much to see. Unfortunately, posted prices are probably MSRP @ 19 and 23, respectively, with no mention of the 3D starter kit.

The silver bezel on the D8000 didn't look bad at all in the darkened room. I had to look closely to notice it and didn't really notice the difference between it and the flat black bezel on the D7000 (they were side-by-side). They would obviously look different in a lighted room, but I don't think the silver will be conspicuous while watching TV.

in some pics the D8000 looks more like a light gray color as opposed to silver...what color did it look to you up close?

How does the 7000 stack up against the Panasonic GT30? At least in regards to them both being the 2nd from the top and both seemingly sharing a lot of if not most of the quality/picture oriented feature of their bigger brother?

In other words, which one seems to be the better deal and which one comes closer to their top model version?

I'd describe it as something short of "brushed aluminum", but definitely not polished. It did reflect back the flash from my cell phone cam, but again, it was a very dark room so don't put too much stock in my impression.

If you want to see the 4 crappy pics of the D8000 I snapped, you can click my link to #1 then substitute 2, 3 and 4 in the URL to see the others.

the bezel actually doesn't look so bad in that pic although like you said that probably has more to do with the quality of the pic itself...the stand looks silver but the bezel color looks more like the C8000 in pic #1...I wish Samsung would have used the same color this year as on the C8000

I'm not sure if it opened up the apps option, but if i were to guess i would say yes it did. I remember when i went to the "Network" settings in the menu when i was under the D6500/7000 mode there were 3 options available(i don't recall which), when i switched the tv back to the D550 only 2 options were available. Unfortunately, i'm not back in until wednesday evening, but maybe if i get a chance to stop in tomorrow i'll check it out. If not, look forward to a response on wednesday if no one else beats me to it.

Official look: No when service menu updated to D6500/7000, the apps are not available. The 3 options that come available under "Network Options" are: Network Settings, Network Status, and AllShare Settings

I also tried a D6450 model and it offered the same options as the D6500/7000 and one strange thing i noticed while i the mode was changed to the D570/6450/6500/7000 was that the touch panel sensor buttons no longer worked. Not that anyone uses the panel buttons over the remote control, but incase u do, they will not work if you upgrade the model through the service menu. I played around with some other stuff, but nothing else stood out except the amount of test patterns that were available in the service menu. Holy crap, they had a ton to play around with.

Not a big fan of the QWERTY remote....

The bezel doesn't look nearly as bad as I thought it would. The claw stand has got to go though.

I was surprised to see it and not the touchscreen, but I played with it a bit and it's not so awful to use. Felt pretty natural in-hand because it is wedge shaped; not too big and not too small. Certainly better than the text entry Samsung and Sony have come up with on their DVD players I've used. The little LCD display is all about useless, though. Not backlit and whatever it says seems to be constantly scrolling sideways.

Here is the first review that I've found for a 2011 Samsung TV trustedreviews.com/tvs/review/2011/03/10/Samsung-UE55D8000/p1. It refers to LED-LCD version but might be interesting to read.

Newb here.

I was trying to buy a 2010 samsung dispaly model on the cheap at one of our local big box stores and I ended up getting a PN51D490 by mistake. I got it home and couldn't figure out why model number wasn't coming up in the 3D Glasses on various website until doing some research on your forums. Just playing around with it I love it. Nice picture, the USB port read my VOB files on my non internet media player so I do not need to bother having the media player connected to this tv. I'm still a novice when it comes to tvs but I'm enjoying this tv.

Haven't had a chance to buy the 3D Glasses yet as the samsung rep i talked to said they aren't widely available yet. Newb Question: Does it matter what 3D Bluray player i buy with it?

Thanks for the link. If led sets have a big reduction in ghosting, the plasma models should have it licked (hopefully).

Thanks.

PN51D490 by mistake, they couldn't of given you a lower 3D model, but you could of paid for a higher model. You should check it out, in this scenario , you could only get what you paid for or less than you paid for.. You broke even or lost , and you couldn't win in this one. Are you free one night to play cards

Unless its a PN50C490, but they still are the same price, and its still floor unit or customer return.
Anyway enjoy your new TV

I notice that none of the D models list the 1-tuner Picture in Picture that was available on the C models. I was thinking this was a nice feature, can anyone who owns a C tell me if the feature is any good or anyone with a D tell me if indeed the feature is available. Thanks.
