Samsung 2011 Plasma Lineup - Page 48

if you were to compare a Samsung 43" 43D490 Plasma to a 51" 51D550 plasma which 'has' the Full Crystal HD engine sitting from 9-10 feet away would you even beable to tell the difference? What does it do exactly? Make the image clearer?

It annoys me that Samsung for the most part ignores 42" models all together.
And the only thing that's available at that size is series 4.

The 43D490 is on my maybe list...But we need reviews and input lag tests.
Also how exactly would the 490 look better than the 450 if it had better processing? Does that effect black levels, color or just clearness?

I'm leaning toward a D7000 and hoping there aren't any huge picture differences with the D8000 having the Local Contrast Enhancer. Plasma to me still had the best picture and motion handling though LCDs are certainly brighter (guess Panasonic has really been the ones improving that). And for the money I still think plasma is the best bet as well. I'm just hoping that the buzzing isn't the sacrifice Samsung has made to keep these profiles that thin. Fingers-crossed on the reviews coming in..

so no retailers are offering bundles with any of the 2011 sets coming in?...are the bluetooth glasses not ready yet?...is there a voucher included with the TV?

Not sure what you are talking about.

P.S. Samsung already surpassed Panasonic the last couple years.

Well not according to Chad B. Read his reviews and cnet on the C8000. In terms of black level and shadow detail, Panasonic always had the edge. This year the two will be fairly close. I always like Samsung. Wasn't really a Panasonic guy. The decreasing black level made it worse for people to choose Panasonic.

From everything I'd gathered, this past years Samsung's topped the Panasonics in color and video processing, and after the black-level rise of the Panny's were either on par or just slightly lighter in that regard. Is this correct?

This is correct, but you failed to mention that the Samsung had quite a few issues with QC last year, lots of people complained about the sets being extremely loud buzzers.

Additionally last year Samsung had undefeatable edge enhancement (sharpening) that some people probably liked, but could get in the way of the best PQ possible from a high quality source like Blu-ray.

Additionally last year Samsung sets suffered from the Cinema Smooth bug that tripled the MLL of the TV whenever you watched 24P source that was displayed at 96hz.

Samsung has supposedly fixed all of these problems for 2011 along with squeezing out a lower MLL on the panel... so things should be very very close between Samsung and Panasonic at this year's shootout.

Chris,

Thats Awesome. Can we be expecting a review soon?????

Oh hey trust me I know all about the buzzing, that's why I had to return mine. Yeah even after the Cinema Smooth bug on my C8000, it was the buzz that really killed it for me. Without even having the volume up loud, if I watched the TV for a couple of hours and then went into another room I would notice a very slight ringing in my ears. And no one should have to deal with anything like that..

I totally agree with you in terms of color and video processing, Samsung wins hands down. I was just speaking in terms of out the box black level. Panny have to fix that black-level rise issue.

I saw the 59D450 today at Fry's. The screen was so reflective that I could see the entire store in it. Also it was quite visibly dimmer than the adjacent LCD's.

early reviews done by retailers can be risky because if the review is bad.... it will sure hurt sales

we all know Chris is honest and Chad does great honest reviews....
so if there is a bad TV review by Chad done at the CP location.... do you really think there will be any rush to get the review out?

remember.... this is only one factor that may be why there is a delay.... I am sure there are many other factors.

nice try..... there is NO 59" D450.

do you mean the D550 ?

try the TV at home before you jump to conclusions.

Purchase the adjacent LCD and the Plasma.... bring them home then you may draw a conclusion.

got it? good

And color(especially) and video processing are MUCH more important to me than having the slight edge in black level performance. I mean so what? what does that little improvement matter when you have innacurate and inferior colors along with weaker processing.

The ST30 seems to be a dissapointment in the color department, so that basically means the S30 and X3 will perform even worse in that area.
Common Sammy 43D490, don't let me down. ;p

Samsung has sched my delivery for my new PN51D7000 for this Tuesday March 15th between 8AM-12PM. Now I just need to get my hands on some SSG-3700's @ Bestbuy and Im set, but I have a feeling those glasses will not be in for a while.

I got a call from Amazon about the 59D7000 being in stock while at work yesterday. They offered to ship one out in exchange for my buzzing 58C8000 and I could just decline the replacement that's already in transit. It was OOS by the time I got home and I'm still going to hold out for the D8000.

I have to totally disagree with you there for this may be an isolated store. I say this because my local BB has the best customer service. Get this .... I bought the 63c8000 at a ridiculous low sale price with the movies and extra glasses and Samsung BD6900 bluray player all for under 2.8. Well the TV was bugged from the word go and they were going to replace it, but get this .. there were non left anywhere to do a switcharoo. So the manager worked with me and said if I can wait a month, they are getting the new 64d8000's and will just swap it out and upgrade my glasses to the blutooth starter kit with the 4 shrek movies and Megamind. They are delivering it on April 2nd and in the mean time they lent me a Panny P50VT25 ... it doesn't hold a candle up to the Samsung. All this for the same price not a penny more ... now that is what I call AWSOME customer service. They really took care of me. So it seems that you got a hold of a store that was a bad apple.

The earthquake might make it really hard for Sony, Sharp or Panasonic to get some of their stuff moving. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...ic-stop-166893 Though they haven't mentioned their TV lines specifically (though that story mentions Sharp LED), one might expect freight could be hosed as well.

Might be another advantage of going Korean this year with the Samsungs or LGs.

I'm on the same boat as you are. The three factors I considered when buying a tv is 1. color accuracy 2. video processing 3. black level. ST30 is a disappointment in color? Man I was considering the 42" version for now until I moved out.

Chad posted his review up for the ST30 a week or so ago I think.
Regarding the color he basically said that flesh tones have a purple and yellow hue to them, and the colors themselves aren't as rich or as colorful as they could be. 'that' right there is a no go in my books. The St30 aint happening. lol

Sorry but I don't see the same thing on the 50ST30 I have.... and I'm comparing it to a PRO-141FD, PRO-101FD, PDP-4280 and a 500M.

wow that is great i guess bb is trying to step it up with a good overall transaction cause i read a story about them going down hill.

Hmm, after checking several web sites it appears the MSRP of the Samsung PN64D8000 is $3799 not $3599 as listed on the first page of this thread. Which is the same price as last year I'm bummed because I was going to pickup the D8000 if it was only about $200 more than the D7000. It looks right now though like the D8000 is about $400 more.
