LG HW300T LED 1280x800 - Page 18

Frys is selling this projector (HW300T) for $400 as part of their sale this week. Is it worth buying it? I see controversy about the 16/9 issue. Has it been solved can anyone confirm?

NO MORE STRETCHING ISSUES>>>new firmware 03.00.21 has fixed all stretching issues and frys has this projector for 399.00 this weekend, my local store has plenty in stock. now for the bad news>>>>LG support still doesn't know when the firmware will be available online to download and update projectors with the 2011 build date and firmware 03.00.08

for 399.00 it's a steal, 100 times better then the qumi for 100 less

Thank you for confirming this. I was hesitant on buying this after reading the posts but will probably purchase one since this will meet my current needs.

Where is the best place to get a distance chart for the 300. I'm ready to buy but i think the throw is too short for my room.
the lg at 1000:1 contrast, rather have the qumi.

I don't know 300 lumens is not much. I wish there were reviews on this model. I don't see any pro reviews at all, and no user reviews anywhere like on amazon/newegg/etc . If it was 500 lumens I would buy it, the one user review I read on the internet on projector.com site I think said it was not that bright if any lights where on in the room so it wasn't good for him.
Do any of you guys have a regular 2,000 lumen PJ and this PJ and can compare them for us, because I usually like to read Pro reviews and a lot of user reviews before buying my gadgets. Even if you guys have the led 500 lumen models that can compare the brightness to this 300 lumen model, that would be helpful. I'm just not sure if the people that bought this model already had 2,000 lumen PJ's and know what they are missing by not comparing them with this model. I like the LED feature and the size of this model. Why didn't any PRO site review it?

Do these new April built units already have the latest firmware on them?...16:9 working correctly out of the box?

That LG would work well at around 75-80" because you get around 18fl at that size which is what most movie theaters have. I hear it also has great sharpness and focus

Off course it would help but I would not recommend going any higher than 100". I have the PLED W500 which has 500 lumens and it is maxed out at 106" for me which is a good balance between size and brightness. To note I have a CRAPPY screen right now just using a bed sheet stretched over homemade wooden frame.

I'm no expert on screen gain technology but I would venture a guess that a bedsheet has a gain factor of about .55. Unless it was satin; then it might be 3.5! But then, of course, it depends on the thread count.

In other words, how can you offer this opinion when your scenario is a bed sheet. Unbelievable!

Well because I there is black out cloth beneath that I originally used but since the black out cloth was a lite gray I wanted a more white surface so put a matte white bed sheet over. Not really Unbelievable

Has anybody tried this projector with a high gain screen? I wanna pull the trigger on this but I need something I can use with some ambient light in the room. Any pics would be appreciated.

projector central has the calculator, that should help, I have it in my room 10'2" and it gives me a 94" 16:9 diagonal and I see Fry's online supply has sold out already, and what I find weird is that the HX350t is still selling at Frys for 799.00 not sure anyone is buying it but wtf?

haha, jack...I was using blackout cloth from my local fabric shop but it had a grayish rubber finish, not white and the image was acceptable but I felt it was a bit dull. I found someone selling a stewart ultramatte 150 (old 4:3) electric screen for 50 bucks, bought and used the material stretched it out on my wall. Used flat black paint and it's amazing what 1.5 gain will make.

I haven't seen the qumi in person, but based on the youtube shootout, the lg looked mush better than the qumi, qumi looked dark and washed out compared to the LG and black bars looked darker on the LG. but of course LG's customer service sucks ass

I tested it with a sample of da-lite's High power and HC high power but it was just too bright for my taste. I also tested all the samples that came with the packet, but I wasn't impressed by any of them. Im using stewart ultramatte 150 and it's a perfect match at 94" diagonal, on economy mode with brightness set at 40

first, I have the panny 4000, and of course the LG is no match, but Im not going to stream netflix on it and use up my lamp with that. I have the panny in my basement on a 130" screen and the LG is 94" in my bedroom, I'd say the brightness is about the same the way I have them calibrated. the reason you don't see pro reviews is because LG didn't release this projector widely, it was only carried by frys electronics and canadian retailers, and of course europe and asia, but in the US most people haven't even heard of it.
contrast ratio for the LG is rated 1,000:1 but I personally think it's a conservative number since I've seen videos on youtube comparing the LG with the other popular LED projectors that claim 4000:1 contrast ratios and frankly blacks on the LG seem darker on the videos.

I hope this puts the stretching issue to rest and goodbye LG HW300T thread, and now hopefully LG will offer the new firmware online which they still haven't, shame on them. peace out

I think the projector focusing range is 100-110 inches, I have it at 94" and it's pretty close to the max of the focusing ring I think the manual says 100". my screen gain is 1.5 and it's plenty bright on econo mode at 40 brightness

you tube vids - "SHOOT OUT"?-the qumi does better blacks period, having seen a lot of the small led pjs now-why would lg lowball there own contrast number, there is little shadow detail (in the lg)after seeing them in person(the qumi claims Contrast 2,500:1)and looks better

bottom line ,pointing 2 pjs at the same wall so close to each other (at the same time no less)and calling it a shootout is funny.
@eatmeat ---you yourself mentioned in a different topic "Qumi Q2 Vs Optoma ML500 at 105" - regarding the YOUTUBE video - "yea the pj on the bottom(qumi) looks less washed out(better),more shadow detail, and the aspect ratio(stretch) on the lg-why dont they redo this vid the lg looks bad."
Which means your were ok with the shootout when it favors qumi . But now you are saying "SHOOTOUT?" which is hypocritical ..

Lg now also claims a contrast ratio of 2500:1 for HW300G/Y/T on their site. (lgprojector.com) However now it says Contrast Ratio(FOFO), is there a difference or they made a mistake before?

OMG! how do you compare one projector to another if you haven´t seen one of them!!! LOL, it´s so funny that your opinion about the LG being better than the qumi q2 is based on a youtube crappy video lol, and worst of all is that you haven´t seen the qumi q2 in person! but for the record, I HAVE seen both projectors in the same room playing the same material and there´s no contest, the qumi q2 with all it´s problems is better.
I have looked it up, FOFO refers to Full On/Off contrast ratio which is always higher than ANSI contrast ratio for a given pj. Perhaps the 1000:1 LG claimed was ANSI.
Anyway the qumi has 2500:1 (FOFO) exactly the same as LG.
