Panasonic HDD/DVD recorder for $150.00
80 GB hard drive.
http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/ele/2286202247.html

The Magnavox in the ad photo is probably a 2160 "A" as the HDMI logo is on the front panel below the DVD Drive tray door, compare with my 2160A in the first photo. The HDMI logo is on the top right corner of the front panel on earlier and later models with a HDMI output. A 2160 is seen in the second photo and a 515 is seen in the third photo. The 2080 doesn't have a HDMI output. A 2080 is seen in the fourth photo.

The Panasonic is probably a DMR-E80H from 2003.

In French, he says "or best offer." Kinda out in the middle of nowhere, though, even for Canada.

I copied the French text into the Babelfish website to get a rough translation of the ad. Always better to ask someone for help than to rely on a computer to do this type of work. I'm sure if a recorder is cheap enough, it's worth a trip to get it.

So did you get it?

I saw this $150 Pioneer 560-K listing shortly after you posted it here. Surprisingly I had a few extra dollars (rare for me) and I was going to contact the seller the next day. Unfortunately the listing was pulled by then. Too bad. Not that I need a second deck but I was going to keep my RDR-HX780 for a back-up and use the Pioneer DVR-560-K for daily use. If times got hard I’m sure I could of sold the 560 for twice as much as the craiglist seller wanted. Oh well, maybe next time.

I came close, but the seller was working late the previous day and I wasn't about to venture into unfamiliar territory to pick up the recorder, especially at night. The seller was willing to accept $100, but I couldn't seal the deal. He eventually sold it to someone else and for more money most likely. I'm surprised you didn't go for it...or did you?

Like you said, there will be other times to get one and cheaper one day. I still have the 550 and 560, so I'm quite content. Still can't resist a bargain though. You certainly got a great deal on that barely used $15 JVC SVHS VCR you mentioned a while back.

No I didn’t go for the DVR-650H-K because you already stated that you’re going for it and I’m a nice guy. I also had things to do and I honestly didn’t think that the listing would last for more than a few hours. As you know those newer Pioneers are quite desirable around here. Too bad you didn’t get it, especially sinse the seller was willing to go $100 WOW that would of been a killer deal.

You say you already own a 550 and 560, did you buy ‘em used of craiglist or did you get them new in box?

I wouldn't have a problem if others inquired about buying the Pio, so go for it next time. It's like a job posting.

Both the 550 and 560 were purchased from Future Shop as open box items. I paid $199.99 (before taxes) for the 550. The 550 was still in its original box and it had all accessories and manuals. Looked like it was hardly used. There were two 550s on clearance at that time. If I had known the 550's hard drive was easier to upgrade than the 560, I would have bought both. Money was tight, so I just bought one.

About a year later, I acquired the 560 for $149.99. The 560 was sold as is, no box and no accessories, just the unit itself. I scavenged a power cord and remote from an old Pioneer DVR-220-S I no longer use. The 220 was also bought for $149.99 as an open box item from Future Shop as well. Eventually I bought a Pioneer UK remote for about $35.00 from an eBay seller that CitiBear had mentioned in one of his posts to use with the 560.

Cover or not, if that were near me it would already be gone
Not really sure what this thing is, the description says Toshiba Tivo Series 1 w/DVD player, the remote looks very similar to my Toshiba XS-35 DVDR so I'm not sure if it can burn DVDs or just play them. $75 with a upsized 300GB HDD sounds like a good deal but I bet it only has a analog tuner.

I believe it's a Toshiba SD-H400 like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-SD-H40.../dp/B0000AA9E8
Records like a Tivo, but I think the DVD drive is just a player, not a burner.

More info here.

You're good I was wondering if you were going to list this before I bought it.
I'm about on my way to pick this bad boy up, of course it's gotta be completely across town from me, at least 50 mins. away seems like a great deal though

Well add another EH-50 to my list, thats #3 for anyone counting
After a brief spindle cleaning(actually wasn't very bad) it will be put into rotation recording from Comcast basic cable, and in plenty of time for the Elizabeth Taylor 24 hr TCM marathon

Congratulations on your third EH-50!

I tried for a third EH50 last week but it was a no-go:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...6#post20246656

My first EH50 is recording as I post.

My second EH50 is running it's fan, as usual. Yes, I think this is related to "searching" due to some TVGOS setting that hasn't yet been defeated. I've tried everything I can think of but haven't been able to resolve this.

Some reasons:
  • The grinding noise of the hard drive in the 531-533-633.
  • Re-installing TVGOS when replacing the hard drive in the 531-533-633.
  • No TVGOS to install in the 550 and newer series when replacing the hard drive.
  • Typing titles using a keyboard attached to the USB port in the 550 and newer series instead of using the remote.
  • Better encoder in the 550 and newer series.
