Digado, thanks for bringing that thread back to my attention, I've added a link to it in my signature link.
Wow, what scares me the most is the possible RAM incompatibility issues. My main use for this unit was going to be for recording to RAM from a Comcast DTA's RF output. I was planning on recording to it's HDD and HS copying to RAM. I'd then take the RAM disc, HS copy it back to one of my other newer Pannys w/HDD, edit the material and finally HS burn a -R DVD.
I currently have a EH-50 doing this function but I'd like to free up the EH-50 for other duties. You see that EH-50 sits in my neighbors house(I don't have cable) and gets very little use. The last time I used it was for several 24hr TCM marathons(Laural and Hardy and many Hal Roach shorts, which by the way I'm still watching, of course my kids are more like more Laural and Hardy! But I'm kind of forcing them to watch them with me, a far site better than most of the crap that passes for comedy now days. The youngest is actually beginning to like L&H and we both just about split a gut watching the music box) anywayyyyyyy back to the topic at hand. If the RAM discs aren't compatible with my other Pannys and if the HS bit isn't set(in order to HS back to the HDD a bit must be set on the RAM disc). All current Pannys w/HDD set such a bit but non-HDD Pannys do NOT set this bit and I'm not so sure if the very old E100H would either. Anyway without this compatibility I'm not so sure the E100 would do me any good.
Oh the reason I don't do any editing on the unit that recorded the TCM is I don't want to impose on my friendly neighbor anymore than I already do. Taking the time to HS copy is one thing, sitting down and editing is more than I care to impose, this unit HAS to have complete RAM compatibility and I'm just not sure it would. Oh and one last point, older Pannys didn't generate thumbnails for each title but rather just one line of text, I'm not quite sure how interchanging between two such machines would turn out
Now I'm not so sure about this machine, but boy the price is good

Edit, now I'm really worried. The E100 may have the infamous black level bug found on very early Panasonics. What this means is the IRE black level is set for the international standard(like out international Panasonics) if it lacks a DARKER setting in the setup it will indeed have the black level bug. I'm going to study this invaluable(but very deep) thread on IRE black levels to find out, stay tuned

Dang! I forgot the pre '05 Pannys don't have full D1 resolution My 24hr marathons were done in full resolution LP, no way I'd want them on SP and I really dislike 1/2 D1. Glad I posted here first, the E100H would probably just sit by my 1/2 D1(on speeds longer than SP) Toshiba XS-35 which I hardly ever use because of that limitation The Toshiba makes phenomenal SP recordings though

Still no word back from the seller even though I left my email and phone number! Why do people post things and then disappear for days at a time Oh well luckily with the help of Digado I've decided that while it's cheap, it's just not for me, good luck to anyone else that is if they can get a response back from the seller

Digado has a thread giving tips for Craigslist buyers but personally if I can get a hold of the seller I've had nothing but good luck.
I've never had to meet a seller in a public area(generally in their house) but I did once have a guy that just wanted to meet me in the lobby of his apartment. In this case I couldn't hook the player up to a TV but we found a outlet in the lobby and I was able to at least verify it powered up and the counter moved with a DVD. With a recorder I'd like to make a short test recording and I guess as long as it didn't grind to loud when you pushed STOP it would probably be OK.
A neighbor occasionally sells off Craigslist and they never tell the buyer their address but instead meet at a local Caribou Coffee shop, generally the selling is done during the day when her husband is away at work so she doesn't want strangers coming to the house when she's alone. Actually all the things I've purchased have been from males but but I can see how a female might want to do the transaction in a public place, at times it's a sad world we live when people have to worry about this
BTW if I lived in LA I'd be competing with you for that EH-50, pretty decent price on a very nice recorder. The only thing it really lacks is HDMI output, digital tuner and a slightly larger HDD would be nice, good deal though. New price $233 I'd buy a new one for that, if anyone actually had one for sale

Failing electrolytic capacitors is a possibility with any device made around when the EH-50 was made. Not all devices have the bad capacitors, both my EH-50's have no such problems but it is a possibility. Personally I think unless you really want a Panasonic(familiar with it's features, like it's features, etc.) you're probably best of buying a new Magnavox. The Maggy also has a usable tuner which you may or may not need. The Panasonics also need periodic maintenance(spindle cleaning which requires taking the machine and drive apart) the Maggy need no such maintenance.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Panasonics it's just I don't think they're for everybody and a 6 year old DVDR even if it hasn't been used that much is still six years old.

Well it's got composite, S-video and even component inputs but everything uses professional BNC connectors and for a '03 machine that originally sold for $3995 new, now way I'd shell out $3500 In fact considering it looks like a tank I don't know if I'd even want it for a song, I guess the seller can keep on dreaming.......until the day they take it down to their local recycling center to meet all the other industrial gear that originally sold for $1000's
