Need Info on Panasonic P42GT25

I am looking to buy a Panasonic Viera 42-inch Plasma (P42GT25).
I have been looking at the specs but I cannot seem to find any information on the motion (hz). It says that it has a 600Hz Sub-Field Drive but only when using Cinema Mode. I am just wondering what the (hz) would be without Cinema Mode turned on? Is it the same or better than the 240hz LCD's? I don't know much about HDTV's, but Im just not sure if I would be better off with a 3D 240hz LCD, or if I should go ahead and get the Plasma? I am looking for the TV with better motion and with 3D, because the 60hz I have now is terrible for Gaming.

It is way better for motion. Get it. I'm loving my G25. Didn't expect the 3d to drop in price so quick in 1 month. Anyways I preferred getting a free soundbar over 3d.

Thanks for the quick reply! I think I may just get it. It seems to run cheaper than the LCD and if it has better motion then I'm all for it. I didnt know what I was missing because I've been using this LG 32" 1080 60hz TV and it has terrible ghosting problems.

LCD and plasma Hz ratings don't compare to each other because the technologies are so different.

Just keep in mind that on a forum like this, almost every TV model has its own set of issues, and the folks here pay close attention to them all.

Alright, thanks. I'll take a look at those. But overall for motion I'm guessing the Plasma technology is better then?

I could be wrong so don't quote me on this, but I think the other modes are 480hz sub-field drive.

Either way, it's pretty hard to notice. The only time I have been able to notice are with high framerate graphics, like 60fps+.

Alright, I guess I'll see. I'm hoping to buy it tomorrow. If anyone else can tell me anything more about this TV before I buy it, I would appreciate it. As long as the motion technology is good. I'm just tired of playing shooting games and every time I turn left or right, everything gets really blurry. The 3D is just a plus for me.

Plasma handles motion better than anything. And the 3D models such as this have faster phosphors than regular 2D models.

I was at Costco today (Hawthorne, Calif) and they had a pallet full of 46" GT24's going for 1099. They had one set up with 3D glasses and it looked incredible even though i'm not really interested in 3D.

Thanks, now I'm definitely set in buying this TV. The price is at $687.00 right now where I'm looking to buy it from! Thats the best price that I've seen anywhere!

You will be glad that you buy it. Instead of just saying plasma tvs don't suffer motion blur issue, the manufacturers came up with this marketing term "600hz sub-field drive" to combat LCD TV's emphasis on refresh rates. The motion enhancement on LCD TVs often times will result in sharpening background images even if it was intentionally filmed to be blurred background.

There was just one thing that I wanted to confirm because I keep hearing that Plasma TV's don't last as long as LCD's due to the phosphers. Is this true? Because It doesn't show much of a difference in lifespan when you look at the hours in the specs. If anyone knows, please confirm this fact or myth.

No. Yet people who don't know any better or are anti-Plasma keep perpetuating this myth.

Tube TVs were rated at 30,000 hours. Most LCDs are rated at 60,000 hours. Panasonic Plasmas (and i think Samsung now) are rated at 100,000 hours, which is like watching the TV for 8 hours a day, every day, for over 30 years. I imagine something else inside the TV will fail long before the panel wears out.

Panny, Samsung, and LG plasmas all claim 100k hr "half-life" meaning 100,000 hrs before set loses half it's original brightness. A set running 12hr a day for 364 days accumulates under 5000 hrs.
