decent upgrade from an hk avr325

Looking to get a new reciever. I listen to more 2 channel music than movie surround and I am using a seperate amp to power the fronts but sound quality wise what would be a good upgrade for me around the 500 dollar range?

it would help if you gave more details about what the goals of your upgrade are and what deficiencies of the 325 you are looking to solve.
