Klipsch RF82 Vs RF82II Speakers

Hello everyone,
I recently bought a Klipsch RF82 Floor standing speakers along with RF62 and RS62 sorround speakers for approx Aussie $4.7K and now thinking whether to upgrade the system for the new RF82II series.
I am not sure the new series has the reputation Klipsch had though. I heard one salesman saying that the new RF82II wooden box is not strong enough to handle the power of the speakers and that he had one occassion where customer had returned it already.. The RF82's have been in the market since 2006 and the agent says that it would be costly for Klipsch to produce at the same quality and they had to go for cheap materials and hence the II series. (thats one of the reasons the price is relatively cheap now)

At the same time I heard another salesman saying the new II series is really good and smooth with sound..
I can still upgrade the system with a nominal payment to the agent for re-stock but wanted to go for the right decision. Apperently the price I have paid is closer to the new series and roughly by paying another grand I can get the new system.
Please provide some light on this? Thanks

Welcome to the Forum Kerry! I personally haven't compared the RF-82 to the RF-82II but can't imagine there would be much of a difference. Klipsch CS evidently doesn't see a problem with mix-and-matching between the two series as mentioned in the Klipsch Owners Thread on this Forum....Insofar as what that one salesdude reported about "the wooden box not being able to handle the power," because of something that a customer said, isn't something I would put much stock in...fwiw, that something that could be tested at the store.

Thank Zen. I guess I should stick to my original RF82 pair considering the extra amount that I have to pay.

From my understanding the new rf II line internals have been completely redesigned.

On the Klipsch thread a dude had two RF-62s and ordered another one on line to use as a center channel...Instead they sent him an RF-62II and the op was worried about them matching so he called klipsch and they said there should be no problem in them matching and after he hooked them up he said he could tell no difference. Of course YMMV.

From Klipsch's website. Seems like they mainly changed the drivers, new crossover system, and minor visual touches with the logos.

"Now in its fifth generation, Reference II speakers boast enhanced features, including re-engineered drivers and a new crossover system, to capture your attention and excite your emotions. In addition to the improved sound quality, the look of big sound has been redefined throughout the line with sophisticated cabinetry, refreshed logos and rounded feet."

Sounds like marketing to me....It makes you wonder what the earlier version was designed to do. ;-)

Does anyone know for sure that the rf82 ii is a good deal better than the rf82?

I've got the opportunity to swap from my 82's to 82 ii's it's a bit of hassle but just wondering if it would be worth it or not. They must be fairly similiar in sound being that not a whole lot was changed.

Just wondering if anyone has run tests or has listened to the differences or knows more about it.
Thanks!

Why pay extra to switch? Maybe for a straight trade, but then again newer doesn't always mean better.

I's and II's probably sound more similar than different. I think klipsch did raise the msrp a little for the II's, so maybe they are using better parts. The crossover is little lower, maybe improved tweeter design?

I stand by my original observations and have heard nothing to the contrary, although have not compared the two.

wouldn't be paying more, just time and hassle.
I suppose it's not really worth it, but just thought that if they sound better i'd go for it.

sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but i wanted to new input as im in the same boat. i can pick up the RF82 (generation iv) for about 550 for the pair and wanted to know if its worth spending more for the RF82ii (generation v). The rest of the speakers in my 7.1 speaker minus the sub will be reference II. is there any issue matching these sound wise? What about the cabinets - will those match? The the older RF82 the same black ash vinyl finish.
