dac magic and MF v-dac

I looking at investing in one of the above dacs. My question is can either or both take more than one input? I'd like to hook in a dvd player and an airport express at the same time. Also, is one is more highly recommended than the other? Lastly, how much of an improvement could I expect to hear using one of these compared to using nothing. I would like to use it to play cds with an old run of the mill dvd player and to stream music from my computer- some compressed files, some WAV files. FWIW i use a HK3490 with some KEF c30 speakers and a BIC Venturi sub. I'm new to this stuff (I have tried to do some research on other threads) so I apologize ahead of time if my questions are inordinately elemental. Thanks

Your receiver has TWO digital inputs. You do not need separate DAC to use with it. Most of what you may need is S/PDIF to Toslink converter like THIS or THIS.

I don't understand your reply. I know I can hook up both the dvd player and the airport express to my receiver- I'm doing that right now. My question was whether or not I can run them both through the dac and then into the receiver to improve the sound quality of the input sources.

External DAC will not improve sound. Your receiver already has good DAC inside. Neither MF V-DAC nor CA DAC Magic is better than what you already have.

tongr, I am afraid you will not get much opinion here to help you. This section of the forum is populated by those who believe that all DACs sound the same. The DAC in your DVD player, in your receiver or in your airport express(if it has one). I suggest not giving up, though.

I bought a DAC which I connected my CD player up to and I noticed an improvement in transparency and soundstage. The Dac Magic is a well regarded unit. See if you can buy one with the option to return if not happy.

Was it a level matched comparison?

OP, he's right. Any thread talking about DACs will turn into a debate as to whether they make any audible difference or not. Just browse this very area for some doozies.

My advice...as always...try for yourself, and see what you think. Both those DACs are fairly inexpensive; as runnin' suggested, see if you can try before you buy, and just make up your own mind.

What else is there if not audible differences? Aesthetics? Flexibility? What?

You think? Why is that? And, what do you mean by helping him?
You mean only opinion that parallels yours is good help???

My advice is to try one and believe your own ears. The naysayers, or measurists, view the fact that they cannot measure what I hear as my shortcoming. I definitely see it as their's.

They can't hear and they can't measure, in their place I would be more humble...

considering comb-filtering can have a drastic effect on response just by moving your head a few inches ... it's highly likely that this is the case for people hearing differences in such equipment changes.
