Either way the first time I used it was a crack up. I ran into the middle of a camp of bandits and let one loose. I couldn't stop laughing as he charged around lighting them on fire and yelling challenges. It definitely burns through the soul gems so I try and use it sparingly, but what fun it is.

Haven't gotten it in Skyrim (yet), but in Oblivion it was just a Daedra summoning device. I'm not big on the summoning magics (in Oblivion, the summoned Daedra could turn on you), but that's the great thing about Skyrim: play the game however you want!
I will say, though, that I love how Skyrim introduces the Daedric artifacts to you. It's always odd and unexpected. The Daedra of Skyrim are sneaky, deceptive, and integrated into human society, similar to the gods of Greek myth. Love it. So far, I only have one Daedric artifact (Wobbajack), but the quest to get it was really cool.
