Help: Should I repair a Yamaha RX-V1800 or buy a new receiver?

Preface - The question below is regarding a setup for my living room. I currently have 7.1 setup in my theater room, so the living room is not my primary room for movie viewing.

My question is I have a Yamaha RX-V1800 that works fine except for the HDMI out connection chipped and no longer sends a signal (previously bought the Yamaha RX-V3800 to replace this in my theater room). I don't know if I would be better off fixing it or buying a new receiver. My speakers for the living room are the Klipsch XL-23. They are 70 watts but Klipsch recommends 125 watts per channel receiver/amp. I had a hard time getting the Authorized yamaha service center to give me a quote on the repair so I've been trying to locate the part myself (I've replaced the HDMI board in a friends Onkyo receiver so hopefully this won't be too difficult). Yamaha wants $400 for the part plus tax and shipping and the only other place I could find the part was searsparts.com and it was $275 plus shipping and tax. When I think of spending $300 to $400 dollars for the HDMI board, should I consider buying a new receiver in the $300 to $400 range instead? I was leaning this way but most of the $300 to $400 receivers are 95-110 watts per channel and I don't know if I won't get the most out of the speakers since they recommend 125 watts (my 1800 does 130 watts per channel).

So, should I buy a new receiver or fix my current yamaha? Also, does anyone know where I could buy replacement parts for the receiver if I decide to fix it? For what it's worth here is the part # WK647000

Thanks,
Daryl

The 1800 has a fair amount of power. At the top of the mid range receivers maybe. Some models from Onkyo were definitely better, but then some models of Onkyos also had quality issues, perhaps (depends on whom you ask.)

New models in the $400 range won't have the power of an 1800. Some discounted 1900 and 3900 may still be in stock in some places, and may not cost much more than that.

The Yamaha RX-V667 seems to be a decent receiver - it won't have the power that the 1800 did, but may be suitable for you, depending on your needs.

I would not put too much weight on a speaker's power rating when it comes to buying receivers, or on manufactuer specified power ratings. Buy what you can afford, looking for good deals from reputable dealers.

Thanks for the reply...

I'm now debating about buying the Pioneer VSX-1120-K instead of replacing the HDMI connector on the Yamaha. From what I've read on the AVS forums and other websites, the Yamaha RX-V1800 doesn't really push 130 watts (only 55 watts in a 7.1 setup). I'm still trying to see if the Pioneer comes close to the 120 watts it claims. I'm hoping since it's THX certified that it will give me more watts than the Yamaha.
