If there is a delay it should be short term as I read that Sharp and Corning suffered very light damage and will have minimal interruption as geographically Saiki and Keyamama (K1,K2) are not in the northern regions and they build their plants to be self sufficient with their own energy sources and water which is constantly recycled locally as they have been designated Super Green Plants.

Saiki is located near a historic port also and well south of Tokyo and I doubt they send the panels to the north for shipping with a local port is available but it would be understandable that perhaps there could be delays in with some subcontracted parts and infrastructure damage beyond their control. Geographically neither is near the Tsunami regions and the plant is so automated that it shut itself down when the earthquake occurred. Hopefully it's short term.

So it looks like Sharp will be the only one with a reasonable 70"+ LCD for the near future. As much as I've been wanting one since Vizio and LG talked about them last year, I'm going to wait and see what the PQ is before taking the plunge.

Yeah, I was all set on getting a Sony 65HX929, but now I'm waiting for more specs and info on Sharp 935 - that set looks pretty interesting!

Any news on the samsung 75"? I am praying this will release this year since I cannot wait another year for a tv and would have buyers remorse for buying the 65" this year.

As far as I recall - Samsung don't have any full array local dimming sets - wouldn't edge-lit look pretty bad in this case - considering the size of the screen?

So no LG 72"? Samsung didnt even release the 65d8000 yet and i lkke the bezel of the 7000 better anyway but 65d is only 8000 (same with previous 65c).

What is the sharp 935 about? I saw 700 series is already out but its not 3d and i think its edge lit. I saw sharp 835 mentioned as 3d led lcd 70" but not sure full array pr edge iit. Maybe the 935 just adds full array to the 835 edge lit but both are 3d ked lcd?

Either way the fact that sears already has a 2d sharp 70" edge lit led lcd bodes well for the 3d full led version to come to fruition. Go Sharp! And teag hopefully the earthquake and tsunami didnt affect them much.

No confidence in samsung coming with anything larger then 65" for some time to come and wasnt that interested in the LG 72" for a few reasons plus its expected high price and sounds like its delayed or canceled now anyway?

So sharp is our only hope to get something larger then 65" especially a 3d led lcd larger then 65"

The 732 is edge lit and not 3d. I saw it show up on sears when you do a price search but on their site says in store only and ppl have said they dont have it. I wonder if anyone will get it on april 1st. Id think about it if maybe somehow there are some available but then new shipments of them are delayed indefinitely and the their models are delayed because of japan problems.

But i cant replace a 3d tv with a non so should wait for 70" 935.

I see no 835 3d 70". Just the 735 edge lit 3d and 935 full array 3d.

732 is edge lit and not 3d but will give us a good indication of all 70" models if anyone can get one from sears or elsewhere. A couple other sites come up in price search of the 70" 732 but probably dont have it.

Looks lkke 935 will be a waiting game and probably delayed due to japan quake/tsunami/nuclear problems.

Edit: looks I was corrected that 732 is full array. But confusing that 735 is 3d but edge lit?

And looks like that was recorrected that 732 is edge lit and thst full array does not mean local dimming so only 935 will be full led like LG models while samsung is all edge lit.

Oh and just a side note, i woukd bet no samsung 75" this year. Late 2012 at best. They released the un65c8000 at thr rnd of 2010 so arent going to release the 65d8000 for awhile i bet though tough best buy finally got a 65c8000 on thr floor and the set was on sale.

The 732 is full array not edge lit.

Sakai2 is scheduled to ramp 2H11. Not sure if the plan changed after the disaster though.

8G is not profitable for 32" mainly due to glass and manufacturing cost plus non cash depreciation for the fab. Cost is not linear per m2 as motherglass size increases. We know this because LGD tried making 32" with their 7.5G plant in 2006 just to fill up capacity.

Why do you think the 935 MSRP will be $5000? Is 3D worth that much more (from a cost basis) if 732 is also full array backlit?

The 732 is edge-lit. "Full array LED" is not the same as "full array local dimming". All of Sharp's TVs are full array LED. But only 935 has full array local dimming - all the rest of them are edge-lit.

How can I find out which stores in Florida are going to have these on display? I asked the salesman at my local Sears and it seemed to be the first he'd ever heard of this TV. Said he could order me one. I said I'd read on the internet that only certain stores would have 1 on display and he said maybe Best Buy??
Whether or not the 732 is edge lit or back lit is my main concern right now, and I won't be ordering one sight unseen, especially if it's edge lit. I don't necessarily need back lit, though. I just want a big screen for a low price with a decent PQ, primarily for watching cable television (FiOS). If it's edge lit and I can deem PQ acceptable with my own eyes, I'll buy it.

At this point there does not appear to be a ton of information regarding these sets. You may be forced to contact local retailers until you find one with information as to when these sets will be in stock.

2.Edge-lit without local dimming
3.Full-array with local dimming
4.Edge-lit with local dimming

The guy in my local Sears knew nothing about it either. I had him look it up on their system. Upon seeing it there he said "Oh wow" He then said he would have to check with his manager to see if they were getting it in. A few hours later he called to let me know that they weren't getting any. So it's no shock to hear about your experience.

As to the edge lit or full array thing. I'm going with what Sharp's website says, and what their exec said at CES. That it's full array. Also if you check the specs on their other LED LCD models they clearly say edge lit. While the specs on this one clearly say full array. It just doesn't say anything about local dimming.

I sure understand why you would want to see it first. I sure a hell did. But at the end of the day, I wanted to go big and I wanted to do it yesterday. So I'm rolling the dice a little bit. I own one other Sharp that I bought without seeing it for myself. I have been very happy with that. So I'm kinda going on a little faith too.

What is sears return policy on items like this?

I don't mean to rain on the parade as I am anxiously awaiting this behemoth but I don't see any official word on the Sharp USA website that this is coming out in April or even soon. In fact, I don't see it on the Sharp website under "60 inches & over" at all.

I'm pretty sure that Samsung was the same way with the D series. With the sets being in store before the website caught up.

You know - you might be right. I just googled Sharp LC-70LE732 - and it looks like every site has different specs on this TV - some say it's edge-lit, and some say it's full array. Some say it has no 3D, and some say "Sharp also paves the way for an affordable 3D TV, also coming in 70-inches screen size. Sharp hasn't released too much information about this model, we just know that it will be available in May of 2011, and will be called Sharp LC-70LE732"

I guess at this point we'd better wait and see what this TV is going to be like

I found this article from 2009 which speaks a little to Sharps use of full array without local dimming. I'm guessing that's what they are doing with the 732.

It is confusing, because on the very same Sears page, in the Product Description, it says...

"The LC-70LE732U combines Sharp's Full HD 1080p X-Gen LCD panel with its UltraBrilliant edge lit LED backlight for vibrant colors and deep blacks."

Yet in the Specifications it says...

LCD Backlight Technology: LED backlight - full array

So which is it??? In the specifications the depth is listed as 2 to 5 inches, I imagine 5" is the base, so the panel must be 2" thick... which would lead me to believe it is edge lit??? However if it is full array WITHOUT local dimming, perhaps that could be what lets it be slightly thinner than the more common full array WITH local dimming which are usually 3"-5" thick?



I currently have a Phillips 52" CCFL LCD (52PFL5603D/F7)... had a Mitsubishi 63" DLP before that, and went down in size to the LCD for the superior PQ. From what I have read, some edge lit LED TV's can have even worse PQ than back lit CCFL LCD's... that's what I'm afraid of. I do not want to go back down in PQ (albeit impossible to plummet all the way down to DLP levels, lol) to go up to 70". However, if it can match or exceed my current CCFL back lit LCD PQ, I'll take it. I'm eager to hear some reviews. Any expected delivery date rockaway1836? I was told $60 delivered and installed. I forgot to ask about warranty, although someone earlier in this thread mentioned something about 5 year... is that included in the price?

There is an article in this months Sound and Vision that talks about 70+ inch TVs. They mention a 72 LG LZ9700 as well as a Samsung 75 inch that they say will be available by late 2011. Also mentioned was the Sharp 70 LE935 and also the 65 inch tv from all the manufactures.

They told me April 1st. Some of what you read on the Sears site was in the general over view. Check it out again, it's not specific at all, just a range of things that the TV falls under.

The TV is said to be 3 1/2 inches thick. Which is right in range with a full array set. The base is almost 15 inches.

As to the LED or LCD thing. An LED TV is an LCD. The correct term is LED LCD. There's a sticky at the top of main page about it.

Can't answer to why the product description mentions edge lit. Typo maybe ? Poorly edited cut and paste from another model description ? I couldn't say.

Be ready to go for your lungs with either of those sets. Checkout Cleavland Plasmas website. Chis has the MSRP for the LG listed. I would expect the Samsung to be even higher.

Just letting people know about the article. They didn't list prices, but knowing those 2 company's I'm sure they are over priced.

I would be keen to know the actual selling prices of these 2 sets IF AND WHEN they are available and compare to Sharp's $3000 MSRP to satisfy my curiosity

FWIW the 58VT20 is selling US$7000 here. You guys got nothing to complain about
