Abt has been taking orders AND money on a 65D8000... A tv not even officially in existence. Tread carefully

Don't get me wrong, I like to do my own due diligence before buying a product. But I don't base my final decision on what some reviewer says they do or don't like about a product. If you look hard enough you can find negative comments and/or reviews for every product out there. To each their own...

I saw it on their site yesterday. But don't see it there today. It was much like the B&H site. No on-line ordering, you had to call for info.

Hopefully, Chad B will have a chance to calibrate one of these soon! I would like to find out if Sharp fixed the color management system so that it can finally be calibrated correctly.

Would love to pull the trigger, but I really want to hold off so I can have 3D (plan on keeping the set for a long time).

Are you guys hearing anything about potential release time frame for either 735 or 935?

Fantastic so looks like this is one promising TV candidate that kept to its promise

Do let us know if you have trouble delivering this monster ie moving space constraints, special equipments, precautions to avoid breakage etc which is a valid reason for NOT having huge TV market.

Yeah, um, even taking money (unless it's some placeholder deposit) on a pre-order is illegal. And I agree the TV doesn't officially exist for a number of reasons.

Just picked 2 up from Fry's in Vegas. They told me they won't be receiving anymore for a while. The Sharp Rep I spoke with told me they will be released in limited quantity. If anyone wants the second one make me an offer. I put my 65 inch Panny in my Bedroom.

Laserline's is due in on the 31st, and mine on the 1st. The biq question now is, will we actually see it on or even near on-time. Laserline1972 says that he works for Sears, and that he was going to check the system on Sunday for more info. As of now we have yet to hear back from him (or her).

Can't help you with the Samsung.

That's great news. Makes me feel I have a better than even chance of seeing mine on time.

Nice to see this tv. Very excited to see some pics and some type of review. I do have one question. In the specs from CLEVELAND PLASMA they list it as "lcd backlight technology: LED backlight- full array". I thought this tv was edgelit??????

That's been the little debate that's been going on in this thread. At CES the Sharp execs said Full Array. Most of the other available info says full array. There are a couple of mentions of edge lit that have been causing confusion.

After following tons of links to articles, specs, and CES videos. I'm conviced it's full array without local dimming. Just go back a few pages in this thead and you can see the discussion that went on.

if it was full array wouldn't the guy with the pic of the 2 boxes i have noticed when edge-lit the box width is not so wide and with full array the tv is a bit thicker so the box would be a little wider.

This tv could very well be full array. The depth is 3.5 inches. More importantly,,,,Chris, have you opened one up and fired it up???? I am very curious to get your feedback. Called Best buy this morning, they have no info. Called Sears and they said maybe tomorrow. I have to see this bad boy before I pull the trigger.

Well it appears I am the first one in the world according to Sharp’s Quattron support. They told me I was the first to register these. So I guess its my civic duty to give a brief review for you Videophiles.

I was hesitant about these new sets. I figured with the price point the quality wouldn’t match my other sets like my 60 inch Kuro, or Panny G10. I had the opportunity to view this LED at CES this year in Vegas and I was more than satisfied with the picture. My issue with LED’s is that they look artificial and still have a lot of artifacting vs. Plasma. The Sharp LED 70 inch is a monster and is really thin. It’s about as close as you’re going to get to a good Plasma like a Kuro. I would say it looks slightly better in some areas. With no ISF calibration I would say out of the box performance is stellar. Sharp’s quattron extra color boast 1 trillion colors, which I find hard to believe. My favorite test demo is a 2.40:1 widescreen 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 transfer of Equilibrium on Blu-ray and has absolutely no flaws. The source material is pristine, no dirt, speckles or the anything. I would say the same for the Dark Knight. Amazingly the Sharps 24p translates nicely, because it reproduces the 24fps of the theater Stylistically, the film is soaked in heavy, dark scenes, so black levels are very important to the overall effect. Blacks hold firm, and despite all the digital detail is about as good as is possible. Sharp really gives these movies an almost three dimensional look to them. I was expecting some pixel crawl due to the 120 htz or sharps Quattron motion blur enhancements that give it a 240 htz. The Black leveling is amazing. Colors are vivid and pop like Alice and Wonderland. I am floored… I just wanted it to look as good as a Vizio at that price, but with the right source material it looks reference quality. For this price I would have bought the whole store. It’s really setting the bar for future pricing. These will sell out once the word gets out. To add more salt to the wound, a source of mine told me the 72 inch LG set is scrapped and will only be released to China, Korea, etc… The Samsung 75 will probably not even come out, and if it does it will have some exorbitant price of $6000.00. So I hope this helps all of you sitting on the fence. I had to kill someone to get these, so I recommend doing the same. Cheer’s
Here is some pics:

Even in a photo you can see the quality of the image.
