Can't go without mentioning

Dire Straits - Love over Gold

Or Brothers in Arms

I agree with ya Ricci, how do you mention all the great albums you just automatically go to for evaluation of Music...

Another great thread that has really fantastic music listed thoughout was Nuances Speaker Journey... Very long thread, so It was hard to find all the info, but lots of members posted what they were auditioning with.

I know I sure am. I love finding new stuff.

Btw, I am supremely jealous. That is an epic line up for this year.

Godspeed live would be lots and lots of fun.
If you enjoy them I would suggest this:

Mono - Moonlight
Post rock
Youtube - Mono - Moonlight
I just picked up a 3xLp 1xDVD live set with the wordless symphony orchestra.
Pitchfork review - Mono

Neurosis is a amazing band, He can scream better than most anyone else. The music is also awesome.
I have never had the chance to see them live, but from what I have heard their live show is stellar (considering that they have a band member dedicated to lights/stage effects)
Youtube - Neurosis - A season in the sky

For those of you who are into this type of stuff, if you want to test out the low end try this out. The most accurate word I have for it is "Chunky"

Pelican - Drought
Youtube - Pelican - Drought
I have had the chance to see these guys live.
Hearing these guitars through 2 4x12 cabs cranked to hell in a tiny venue is mind blowing (and ear shattering) so bring earplugs if you go see them.
I have seen them once play with Mono (mentioned earlier) and that was one of the best shows both of them have put on.

Enjoy

These always bring a crazed look to listeners!

Excision & DatsiK - Swagga
Dubstep.

Kid Sister - Pro Nails (Rusko Remix)
Dubstep, rap sample

Swagga is badass.
Here are a few more:

Rusko - Got you on my mind
Youtube - Rusko - Got you on my mind

Check out the "Snake Eater" remix in my earlier post...
That hits really REALLY hard.
That is my go to "So, do you guys want to Feel some bass?" song.

Here are a few more;
(I like to separate out some of my posts here because tossing in some Dubstep with metal, or with something like Holst is a little odd. But fun!)

Ewan Dobson
This is some fun stuff. The recordings are pretty damn good quality as you can hear fret noises, finger slides, and even individual picking. He has a bunch of stuff in a few different styles though he cites classical training, heavy metal, and video game music as his biggest influences.
YouTube - Ewan Dobson - Level 5

Antoine Dufour
This is close to the earlier one but I think he might be a bit more technical with feeling. He has plenty of stuff on youtube and it is all pretty awesome. He also does some stuff with another guy named Tommy Gautier which is great as well.
Antoine Dufour - Spiritual Groove

They are on "Candy Rat" records and if you do a search on them you will find all kinds of good stuff.
The recordings are usually stellar quality and worth mentioning. The artists are usually great as well.

If I listen to Swagga, I can't get it out of my head for a while. Snake Eater probably has more bass, but Swagga isn't as repetitive and is so dirty sounding. I think it hits a bit lower too.

You probably have already heard of Bassnectar. The song is really good, but isn't in the same league as far as bass as the two mentioned before.

Bassnectar
Timestretch

All of Luda's latest album hit really low. How Low is one I use to demo, but it is a little annoying waiting for the bass to finally come in IMO. Otherwise, I love all of Luda's stuff.

That Rusko one is growing on me.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the 1812 overture from Tchaikovsky with the real cannon blasts. I no longer have the cd but I remember playing it in my car when I had 3 JL 10's and 600 watts and it actually scared people that listened to it with me. This is one of those tracks that have huge dynamic range and if you don't have subs AND speakers to keep up I wouldn't turn it up. With that said the challenge is on! Try it out if you've not heard it. I'll try to find a link to the CD I had. Until then this Youtube vid will have to do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNatwyAJ6dI

Here's a link to the performance on SACD. Will keep looking for the CD version. http://www.timefordvd.com/sacd/revie...Overture.shtml

I'm gonna hunt for 1812 Overture on SACD once I wrap up my mega mains project.

I listen to awful music from my generation. It's all compressed to nothing. I've got nothing worth adding to the thread.

"Is anyone actually checking these youtube links trying to find new stuff?"

definitely. i listened to the holst - mars track several times before forwarding it around to many of my friends/family. reminds me of the wrath of kahn score. it is dark, germanic, and full of power...i'm going to check out bosso's next.

One disc I am quite fond of is Cirque Du Soleil ~ Ka.

If you haven't checked it out, you should give it a whirl. Dynamic range on a few tracks is quite a bit more than mainstream recordings.

"Pursuit" has ~45 db of dynamic range. "Battlefield" has around ~ 35 db peaks, and has some sweet sounding bass.

Think that is brutal? Nightwish - "Creek Mary's Blood" apparently has ~ 60 db crest. ( tribal drum )

Those tracks will gobble up any amplifier headroom you thought you had.... and then some.

Luda's How low has a certain frequency.
That is the song I demo for people who want to hear the bass in my front yard.
It shakes right through my living room when it hits.

Mmm Bassnectar is exactly that.
Sawtooth versus Sine wave plus COMPRESSION! (In a fantastic way)
Bassnectar - Magical World (Remix)

This makes me want to have subs in my car soooooo bad.
I might have to call up Fi one of these days...

Benny Benassi
Here is a present to all of the GUYS out there who enjoy powertools, DIY, and bass.
It isn't super low, but I always joke that I would love to have what I call a "Benassi-Button"

When pressed it would add 500% compression and 1000% volume, the disco ball would drop, smoke machines would fill up the place and lasers would be everywhere. Trust me, you will know what I am talking about. 0:30 in the video.
In the third verse, after the breakdown, he uses a synth that hits the same time as the snare does and makes the snare sound like there is a bunch of awesomely nasty reverb and it goes for ages. 1:49/1:53
The album version is a little longer with a way better/longer breakdown.
Benny Benassi - Satisfaction

Back Door Man by Sarah McLachlan.
This song threw me for a loop withsome of the bass in it.
Kicks in at around the 14 second mark.

Portishead - Roads
One of my older favorites.
This song is a fantastic song to listen to in the afternoon, or later in the evening. It is super relaxing. That Fender Rhodes sounds spectacular.
