Buttery Topping - Who's tastes the most like the movies?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for the best movie theater style buttery topping for my popcorn. I figured if I'd find that answer anywhere, it would be here.

I only have one requirement, I'd like for it to NOT require heating. I basically want to be able to serve it out of an olive oil bottle. Now I know that may limit my choices, but let's try anyway.

Thanks!!

What I have found that most of the buttery topping oil is pretty much tasteless. For example the Orville oil can be used as a cooking agent or topping. You can use that. The topping is more for mouthfeel.

What I have done is I went to Sams Club and bought the butter flavor popcorn salt. When I cook my popcorn in whatever oil I use, I add the salt to the oil then add the kernels. The popcorn comes out like movie theatre popcorn.

3/4 teaspoon popcorn salt
3/4 cup kernels
3 tablespoons oil

Pop, then drizzle orville popcorn oil on top

Good luck.

Thanks, but not sure that is the answer I'm looking for.

REAL BUTTER?? Come on!

I want the movie theater experience, not REAL BUTTER!!
I want the fake, greasy, never comes off your fingers experience.

I don't need the salt, I've got that covered.

It's the artificially flavored, incredibly processed, and probably not very good for you "buttery topping" that tastes just like the movies stuff I'm after!

Well I guess that was my point I was trying to make in my first post. Have you actually gone to the theater and put your hand under the popcorn butter dipsenser and tasted it. It's kinda tasteless, not salty or buttery. That's why I suggested you use Orville popcorn oil as a topping because its the same thing.

I try to focus on making great tasting popcorn with butter flavored popcorn salt, then adding the oil topping for mouthfeel.

My wife used to work at 2 theaters in her high school days, the supplies that Sams Club sells is basically the same stuff Movie Theaters use.

Thanks. I know there are a lot of companies out there who make the stuff. Just wondering who has the best. For example:

Etc.

As a multi heart attack survivor, I must refrain from this type activity, since my many years as a theater goer helped contribute to the sad condition ... butter toppings were my nemesis ..

Perhaps I will start a thread called "Heathy Greasy / Buttery Popcorn Toppings That are Healthy" ..

I worked at a Theater back when I was in high school. Granted that was 27 years ago.
That greasy crap was NASTY. No flavor at all. The butter salt that was added in with the popcorn when cooking was the flavor.
We would plop the greasy stuff from a half gallon carton and heat it to melt it. I think it was nothing but tastless LARD if you ask me.
If you are looking for the feel. Buy a bunch of flavorless Chapstick and melt that. I would think it would feel the same.

FINALLY!! A real answer to my question! Thank you!
I already get the pre-packs. And I'm happy with the ones I get.
I'll try the topping you suggest.
Again... Thank you!

Most theaters actually do use clarified butter nowadays and the best I've found is this:
http://www.htmarket.com/ht-2020.html
But, yeah, it does require heating. The super kist is ok, I've been also using STAR mild flavored olive oil which doesnt require heating and has that great greasy feel you want...

Sorry for the revive of an old thread, but it is exactly what I was looking for.

I'm going to pull the trigger on this, and then go buy some sams club combinations while I wait for it to come in the mail.

Quick question, I put in 1/2 cup of kernals per batch. So, what size do i need to get for the pre-packaged items? 4,6, or 8?

1/2 cup is 4 oz.
And I am super happy with Superkist!

Perfect, thanks! I purchased the Sams stuff for now, except the 50lb bag of popcorn kernals, I think that was a little over the top...
